Random event generator

By megabyte264, in Game Masters

I had the idea of making a Star Wars themed random event generator. This took about 20 minutes so it is not the most comprehensive. I would appreciate additions, alterations, and constructive criticism from those GMs with more experience than me.

Roll a 100-sided die (or two 10-sided dice).

1-5

Fight breaks out between rebels and stormtroopers.

6-20

Stormtroopers arrive, recognize, and fire at PCs.

21-30

Squad of stormtroopers approach and ask for ID.

31-35

Pickpocket steals one non-concealed small item. (Enc. 2 or lower)

36-45

Group is mistaken for local group of criminals.

46-60

Speeder bike or starship chase starts.

61-70

Thermal detonator is rolled into room with 10 seconds on timer.

71-75

Floor, walls, or roof collapses, leading to secret room.

76-80

Group finds mysterious artifact, with much monetary or scholarly value.

81-90

Group is approached by bounty hunter hired to capture them.

91-99

One PC falls to the ground unconscious.

100

One PC mutters Star Trek quote, revealing them as a traitor.

Ok. That should be visable.

It's interesting and i guess 100 is a bit of a joke line atm.

Not sure about 76-80...might be better as "Group stumbles across a mysterious item..." and leave it at that.

The Stormtrooper lines would probably be better as Stormtroopers or local authorities.

Would be nice to have a line in for "A fight breaks out between two rival criminal groups and the PC's are caught in the middle of it."

91-99 could be more interesting to be "While in a crowded place a random PC feels something scratch against them. A few moments later they fall to the floor..."

Other things could include:

One PC is mistaken for a local/galactic celebrity and hounded by mistaken fans

A speeder (or some other type of vehicle) suddenly crashes in the vicinity of the PC's (maybe even into their vehicle/ship)

These ARE the droids you are looking for...any droid owned by the PC's (or a PC droid) appears to be on a list of items stolen from a Corporation and their representatives have come to get it back.

You are the law...the PC's find themselves deputized by an understaffed Marshal who needs folks good with a blaster to deal with a troublesome gang/criminal enterprise

The players get back to the docking port to find their ship missing. It has either been impounded, stolen or very well hidden (but a ship a lot like theirs is parked nearby)

Help, my baby is in there! The PC's arrive just in time to witness a building in flames, a woman is screaming that her child is still inside and no one is helping

A gunslinger approaches the most combat orientated PC and insists that they can beat them blaster duel, insisting that they will avenge the death of their brother

Thanks for the feedback, but a couple of these seem like things the GM should plan. I will admit some of mine are that way too, but this is meant for when lack of prior planning leads to a slow point in the story, the players are losing interest, or the GM just feels that it has been to long without some action.

There is some fantastic randomisation tables on this site

Nice!

It was this page in particular that is good. Should have directly linked to it in the first place. The entire site is a fantastic resource full of great ideas. This page is full of random events, similar to the modular encounters in the Fly Casual book :D
