Inspiring Recruit and Electronic Baffle

By sionnach19, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I want to ask how Inspiring Recruit interacts with Electronic Baffle.

EB reads: When you receive a stress token or ion token, you may suffer 1 damage to discard that token.

IR reads: Once per round, when a friendly ship at Range 1-2 removes a stress token, it may remove one additional stress token.

My hope is that IR allows EB to remove two stress at a time (for a Baffle/Quickdraw build), but I'm worried that "discarding" a stress token isn't the same technical language as "removing" a stress token.

Thanks for your help!

It probably works the way you hope it does, but I think it needs an FAQ to be certain.

It's not crystal clear what counts as 'removing' a stress since that key word might not actually be key and any time you pull a stress from your ship it counts.

My suspicion is electronic baffle will interact with recruits but the wording is annoyingly imprecise.

Great, thanks guys. So my best options at this point are to email FFG looking for a response, and get in touch with any tournament organizers beforehand to confirm this is their ruling?

i imagine it would work since i think technically you do actually get assigned a stress when triggering baffles, while things such as Yorr you never got it to begin with to trigger "removing a stress"

Be aware that a tournament organiser may not see it the same way as FFG, so keep any reply email handy to show them. The tournament organiser still has the final say regardless of what an FFG email says.

Annoyingly worded.

However, my argument for it working would be

Sabine wren

'... before a friendly bomb token is removed , ...'

And the bomb reference from the rules,

◊ Proton Bomb: When this bomb token
detonates, deal 1 faceup Damage card to each
ship at Range 1 of the token. Then discard this
token.

◊ Proximity Mine: When this bomb token
detonates, the ship that moved through or
overlapped this token rolls 3 attack dice and
suffers all damage (?) and critical damage
(?) rolled. Then discard this token.
◊ Seismic Charge: When this bomb token
detonates, each ship at Range 1 of the token
suffers 1 damage. Then discard this token.

So I'd happily argue discarding tokens = removing tokens 'technically'

Well if you look up synonyms of remove in the English language, Discard and Remove are the same thing.

Only difference is phonetics unless FFG had a section specifically calling the difference (i.e. Spend vs Discard in Armada is vaaaastly different). You could say "Went to the dentist and had my tooth discarded" and it would make sense but sound weird.

Have you received an official response from FFG?
