Please help an old, addled man with this new post editor ...

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I am frustrated beyond belief with this new FFG forum based on Asmodee's design.

It has many nice features, which are an improvement over the old design, but one glaring issue that I cannot figure out.

I want to be able to enter multiple lines, all in a row, without spaces between them. I also do not want to use bullets or numbers on the lines. Note how the above lines have a space between them (a blank line), but this one does not, as I just typed and typed and typed until the sentence continued on the next line.

BUT ... the moment I hit <enter>, it generates a blank line. In some cases, I want to make a non-bulleted non-numbered list without blank lines between items, that are short. For an example, just look at the Index of Useful Links. I am trying to enter several new proxies for characters, but when I attempt to do so, I get extra blank lines.

Surely, in this day and age, there is a way to make this post editor do this, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how.

I am old and addled. Does someone know how to make this *&^%$#%$%^& thing work like I want?

I think more context is needed. In what example are you wanting a string of individual lines that are not somehow a list, as that's what the bullet/numbers formatting is for?

Most people nowadays I think assume that if you hit return it's because you wanted space in between what you wrote for clarity, not just to stack sentences on each other. It's a visual styling thing really, it makes the text easier to read.

I don't think you can. Looks like it's just the way the new forum works.

I feel your pain, I really do - personally I miss the "unformatted" option...

At any rate I have an answer for you...

If you want no spaces between lines...
Like this...
And this...

You need to hold the Shift key when you hit return.

I only found this by trial and error, there doesn't seem to be a guide to the interface that I can find. :(

Maxam you clever bastard.

That's pretty standard behaviour by the way. You'll find it works in many places (eg. Microsoft Word, or email apps etc).

Good lord ... hold the Shift Key ...

Because THAT is completely normal and clear ...

LOL. Thanks for the advice !

For reference shift-enter is used for a return that does not break the paragraph, where 'standard' return starts a new paragraph. As odgregg mentions most word processors have always worked like this, but it may not be common knowledge (like how shift-tab tabs backwards).
