Leia trooper squad - viable?!

So, I've played a few games of skirmish, although mainly played campaign. I have put together a trooper list for rebels but have no idea how well it would work in the meta. I think I've gone for as many mid-damage attacks as possible with the ability to get extra from Fenn and Leia and focus from 3po and Gideon. The idea being the Rebel Troopers close in and focus while the Rangers cover from distance. I want to put together a squad to take to store to play and wondered what anyone's thoughts were here...

All lists are viable

Meta is relative to each particular area.

Regarding your list, I usually prefer my leia shot to be hard hitting, so more 3 dice attacks, but with your guys being focused, you could get that almost whenever you want. My beef with Fenn, is his attack is pretty weak (basic attack is fine, but poor surge abilities) and you pay through the nose for the ability to shoot again. I'd almost drop him for a collection of other figures like eEchoBT and All smuggler off the top of my head. Or you could swap to the elite Rangers and switch up some of your command cards for extra attacks or extra activations.

Here's how I feel about some of these command cards presently

  • Covering fire
  • Grenadier
  • Inspiring Speech (may be redundant with 3po, gideon and self focus)
  • New Orders
  • Regroup (extra Reinforcements is probably better )
  • Reinforcements
  • To The Limit (Single Purpose let's Gideon move someone twice or double focus)
  • Hard to Hit (I always reroll the same result, so I almost always take anything else)
  • Rank and File (you want to be far away, I don't know if the extra movement is needed)
  • Cruel Strike (tough luck is really useful with all the rerolls in the game now)
  • Of No Importance
  • Stall for Time
  • Wild Attack
  • Positioning Advantage
  • Mitigate

I don't see any of the Hunter cards which really make the Rangers shine. I don't see Rebel High Command, On Diplomatic Mission (gideon) or Planning Cc which all work well to gather more than your fair share of cc. A list like this you're going to want your full deck to work with asap and Leia to keep putting those cards back in and drawing them again (back to back Grenadier/New Orders, etc.)

I have found Leia to be VERY fragile with the current meta online, so be very wary of command cards and positioning of her.

Agree that Fenn probably shouldn't see the light of day in a list anymore. I wish he had Blast 2, that may make him more interesting.

Thanks for the comments, really helpful. It's a shame about Fenn as the opportunity to swarm with troopers and get 6 attacks in an activation seems solid. Suppose they have to be positioned to perfection! I'm gonna look at the command cards again as you've made some great points. Skirmish list building can be quite overwhelming when you first start!

Fenn doesn't allow you to get 6 attacks per activation, he can only grant Assault to a single figure per round. Typically though, you won't find very many opportunities to utilize Assault since it requires your figure to already be in the correct position prior to activation. Now, if he had Rapid Fire (from Vinto) and could grant it to another trooper, he might be worth playing. As it stands, Fenn just doesn't function well, and he costs too many points.

Ah. Not read that one thoroughly. Yeah... He's out.

Still being new to the game I thought that Fenn was the bee's knees. For the points I think another group of eAlliance Rangers will net you more returns. For the same amount of points as Fenn you're getting five more hitpoints (3x5) than what Fenn brings, and the Reinforcements command card means you'll be getting a lot more out of your Trooper deployment groups so consider adding in a second Reinforcements card in place of something you've already got there.

Your list is actually quite similar to what I'm planning to take to Regionals in a few weeks' time. As others have suggested: Fenn's not as good as he seems.
