A280-CFE (covert field edition)

Has anyone had a go at statting the A280-CFE from Rogue One? Cassian's weapon http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/A280-CFE

I might be playing a Gadgeteer in a coming campaign and I like the idea of a weapon that converts between Pistol, Rifle and Sniper Rifle with different attachments. I am curious what qualities others would think would be in each of the configurations, and also how the stats would change too.

Check out this vid. At 4:36 Diego puts it together from Pistol to rifle in just a few moves. Maybe in 2 manoeuvres? :)

That's a good place to start. I guess I can use that as a base, along with the standard Blaster Rifle, which lists the A-280 as being in that model.

Give it the pistol grip and stripped down attachments for pistol work, your choice of shiney pew pew for rifle work and the marksman barrel and scope of choice for sniper work.

Nice. So here is how it looks.

I used a standard Blaster Rifle as the base.

  • Added Pistol Grip, which goes across all modes (1 HP)
  • Stripped Down for pistol mode (3HP - leaves 0 HP left when in pistol mode)
  • Marksman Barrel for sniper mode (2HP)
  • Added a Multi-Optic Sight (1HP - leaves 0HP when in Sniper Mode)

All up it is a nice weapon! Dam 9 Blaster Pistol too :)

There you go. I personally would try and get an extra HP on it, either through the Tinkerer talent ir through credits to add a Personalized Grip, to ignore one of the SB dice you are getting hit with.

Also don't forget that you don't need the pistol grip in rifle or sniper modes, so a Actuating (sp?) Spin Barrel will give you extra punch.

I thought about whether it needed Pistol Grip in all modes, and I kept it as it doesn't make sense to me that it would disappear in the other modes, as it is the core grip in all modes?

In my group, we look at it narratively. Yes, a rifle might have a pistol grip (much like an AR-15), but you don't get the benefit of using ranged-light unless you actively had the attachment. However, that's between you and your GM.

I would however, argue against being able to use ranged-light while spooning a sniper rifle.

I absolutely adore how attached Ben Mendelsohn is to his blaster.

The thing I would change is to reduce the damage and the accuracy in pistol mode, due to the shortened barrel length. You’d get those back (and maybe more), when switching it to rifle or sniper mode.

Clone Commandos did it better. Are you familiar with the Deece?

Nice, accept I want a Pistol mode for planets that don't like Rifles out in the open. Sure I could use a separate pistol, but I am a gadgeteer! :)

I thought the same, but the rules don't say I have to, so Dam 9 it is!

I think it's balanced by the fact that he lacks the hardpoints to further trick out the pistol mode. No BAM means no Pierce and the damage is fixed.

Until we have official stats, I'm using the modular rifle from Special Modifications for the A280CFE, with the ability to put attachments together as a group. You can swap a group of attachments in or out as a unit as an action (as the rifle's ability), but it takes the standard time to adjust what attachments are in a package.
