Priest and Spellcaster starting skills

By UniversalHead, in WFRP Rules Questions

In the FAQ, it says that Apprentice Wizards start with Channelling and Spellcraft skills, but Initiates do not start with Piety or Invocation . Three questions:

1. Is there any mention of these starting skills in the core book? I can't find it if there is.

2. Do any other careers start with skills?

3. Do these starting skills count as career advancements?

Also, Initiates begin with a bunch of action cards (Curry Favour, Blessing of Health, Minor Blessing and Minor Ward). Do any other careers start with action cards, and do these action cards count as career advances?

Man ... this entire career topic needs a decent rewrite ...

1. Page 42 of the ToM indicates that Apprentice Wizards start with Channeling and Spellcraft acquired . This means the Apprentice can use those advanced skills as though they were basic skills. Priests do not start with Invocation and Piety acquired.

2. I'm not certain if any other Careers begin with any advanced skills acquired.

3. No, none of the skills, actions, or talents gained during character creation count as Career Advancements.

AFAIK, no other careers start with specific actions; however, all new characters start with at least 1 Action card (above and beyond the basic ones like Melee Strike, Assess the Situation, etc). A character may spend up to 3 character creation points to gain additional Action cards.

I would guess that Initiates start with the Basic Blessings to offset the two skills that Apprentice Wizards have acquired automatically.

Many thanks for that clarification. That starting skill rule for Wizards is certainly hidden away ...
