I keep seeing various Rebel lists with Astromechs from the Rebel Transport in various lists and do not want a Rebel Transport. I am a casual player at best. I dislike buying ships for a single card. I know I can proxy things in casual games. But I do play enough tournaments that having the actual card is my preference. But I can't see spending $50 for a handful of Astromech cards.

What are the odds FFG will put some of the popular cards out in tournament kits or in other ship packs in the future?

They put C-3PO out as a tournament prize so there's definitely a precedent for FFG using an upgrade that is only available with a Huge ship expansion as prize support.

Never tell me the odds. There are some people who sell individual cards on ebay however, so it is possible to even get the published card without paying $50, maybe just $25.

Just buy the expansion. The GR-75 is cool and the gateway to Epic, which is the best way to play X-wing.

On the odd happenstance that a local X-wing player buys a second GR-75, buy all the uniques from him. You'll be able to get all that you need at a fraction of the Ebay price, while putting more funds into your local community.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think unique (black dot, you know) cards have ever come in more than one expansion. It's very unlikely that FFG will re-release R3-A2 for example when they could instead make a cool new astromech.

I was about to suggest something along the lines as Astech.

There's a player at my LGS that was talking about having bought a number of lots from other people before he moved to the area. He seemed more than willing to sell some of his extras when I asked him if he had anything that he didn't want.
Not everyone is willing to become a seller on ebay (for one reason or another) after all.

The point is: talk to people and get them to open up. You may end up with a trade, a purchase or a good lead. The best time for it is while setting up rocks, or between games while others are waiting to be partnered up for the next game. "Anybody ever buy one of those lots off of ebay before?" or be really up front "I really want R2-D6! His ability is really cool. Anybody have an extra one they want to sell?"

Since you play casually I can only wholeheartedly recommend waiting for a good deal on the expansion. I got mine for 40€ a while ago.

Why would you want this ship? It works on the standard 3 by 3 field if you play about 150 points just like that, since you can keep it very cheap.

And, most important of all, it comes with the best set of missions (a three part campaign) that FFG has ever published. Playing it back in wave 4 was one of my favourite X-Wing experiences ever. Great replay value, too, a friend and I played it for 3 weekends straight for about 5 or 6 playthroughs total. I do not know wether the design was futureproof, so if you include post wave 4 ships and upgrades be carefull, especially with fixed ordnance, it breaks many missions.

So do get the ship, you won't regret it if you motivate your fellow players to do some more unusual things. Also, should you ever play epic, it is my favourite ship (okay it was until the Gonzanti was released) there for a reason. Cheap, durable, very different since it isn't armed at all, and a great mix of support, debuff, and battering ram.

As said before the GR 75 Boxed Set is really good. 60$... but you can find it cheaper. As people who quitted the game are selling their stuff finding ships from the first waves is not very hard.

Gr 75 + X Wing + cool cards...and the Campaign. I have played all 4 Epic CGs and this is the best. I am in minority but GR is my favourite Epic ship. I purchased my third from a ex X Winger that moved to Armada (Bad move). Only 25$...
