Regionals Double Sided Ruler Short

By DirtyBman, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all,

The double sided acrylic ruler I won at regionals is short a few mm compared to the single sided acrylic and the cardboard ruler from the core set. The ranges are all short as a result.

Does anyone have this problem and is there a way to resolve this since it not a standard production model?

Thanks.

Thats a feature. What you do is you pretend you are being cool and magnanimous and you let your opponent play with it, while you use a drab ole regular one.

I have notice with the cardboard one it lenght are changing due to wear and tear.

I also notice some folks movement tools tend to be abit more forgiving or nicer in the turn radius they give

I have wrapped my original cardboard one with clear packing tape to preserve it the best I can. It looks and feels safer that way.

The orange one had an overall length matching the cardboard one we compared it against. But one of the range bands was shorter IIRC.

Simple solution is is to offer to let both players work from the same maneuver tools and range rulers when you play. That way everyone walks away feeling a little screwed

wait... that sounds off...

I would be very happy if FFG decided to release an official set of acrylic rulers and tokens, and I know many long term players who would happily purchase one.

Barring that, an official info release on the intended lengths of each zone would be perfect. Should it be 5-2-5? 4-3-5? Something metric?

Slightly related - I've just had some rulers made up but wasn't sure which range band the delineators count as.

In other words - where does range 2 start? At the very end of range 1 or just after the line between the two ranges?

IIRC anything on the line is treated as being the closer range/distance. I'm pretty sure it's in the rules but I don't have a copy nearby.

Oh, but they have.... you just have to win in order to get them

Range and Distance

The range ruler has two sides: the range side and the distance side. The range side is divided into three range bands: close, medium, and long. The distance side is divided into five distance bands labeled “1” through “5.” The bottom of the ruler is the edge at the close-range end of the ruler.

• When measuring with the range ruler, use only a single edge of the ruler; do not factor in the width and thickness of the ruler.

• The lines on the ruler that divide two adjacent bands always count as part of the band closest to the bottom of the ruler.

Be careful quoting rules or some xxxx guy will kick you out from here too.

I don't want to look for your wisdom in the Paint and Modification sub-forum.

Its fine, I just got told "you suck, play better, because you're irrelevant" in the main forum anyway.

Win less and we won't need to handicap you.

There's a drama backstory here and I want it!

Funny enough, mine is a bit longer at a few distances. Just a mm or two but definitely longer. I try and make sure I let my opponents remeasure with their own ruler if something is within a mm or two of being out of a particular range.

Self deprecating humour taken the wrong way. :c

That, and people taking Rules Forum pedantry personally.

Does anyone have a photo of the cardboard starter set ruler alongside the green single sided acrylic rulers and the orange double sided. All neatly lined up on some graph paper.

Just how much shorter are we talking about?

I checked them last night, it's barely a millimeter....the green and cardboard are the same. Orange is shorter...

This is...disturbing. I used to love that orange ruler. Then you guys had to ruin it by giving me the truth! :)

My TEAM ORANGE ruler is SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than my TEAM GREEN one. I mean, I've had plenty of shots that were decided by that distance! And range 2 is &$^#%ed. Hello? Dengar range? Oh well, that one is going back in the bag or on eBay. The TEAM GREEN one is back in business.

As an aside, if you haven't already, super glue the two green rulers together. They are awesome like this. Before that, I would always pick up the wrong one when measuring.

Don't even start me on TEAM WHITE...

Yours don't even look that bad. Here's mine scanned in.

The real issues are on the distance side. Distance 1 is off by the most, then distance 2 is weirdly pretty on point, then it goes off again at 3 and 4. Seriously, what the hell FFG?

I did.

... They're different lengths.

That's too bad. My green regional rulers are about as perfect as they come. Put them next to the cardboard ruler and they are amazingly accurate.

Both of my green sets are spot on. Printed ranges on my orange are accurate, but the range 5/long range is cut short.
