Two questions on game state and player mistakes

By DakDaniels, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi everyone!

Two quick questions:

1) If a player forgets to assign a new command dial to a command 1 ship and only realizes it halfway through the turn, what happens?

2) When a player locks in their course but has mistakenly added an extra yaw, what happens?

Thanks in advance!

Gentlemans agreement in casual games? Just fix it as best you can.

My usual opponent and I just assign the dial as what we would have intended to do at the start of the turn, even if that's not the best situation the ship is in, so nothing really has been changed. The maneuver is easy if you can catch it in time to correct things.

Definitely casual fun games to start the campaign.

Regarding question 2, we resolved it by going back to the original spot and re-plotting the course to a legal move.

Question 1 was the more extreme resolution where the player who forgot to assign the dial let their opponent pick their maneuver (a-la X-Wing when revealing a red while stressed) sending his transport off the board.

I am just wondering if both of these instances were cases of an illegal game state and what is the resolution for correcting this.

Regarding question 1, fairest way to handle it, is for the ship to continue with the same command it had the previous turn.

1. If it is a casual game, you can negotiate it. I'd let it slide if I understand what the ship is intended for. "Oh I forgot to set my Repair Crew flotilla with a command." Well give it a repair. "I forgot to give Yavaris an additional Squad command." Well give it a squad command.

If it is a tournament game... well that sucks. You lose it. It's frustrating because that means they will get more insight into the board state and set 2 commands, but at the same time they have a ship without a command for one turn. If they catch it before I activate anything, I'll allow them to set it. But in a tournament, you have to stay on top of your stuff.

That's my rule of thumb, and I don't always follow it. If my opponent is being kind to me when I forget things, I'll repay him with the same kindness and let them fix their own mistakes. It's always a judgement call when these type of situations show up. Be nice. Have fun. But don't roll over and let your opponent abuse your kindness.

2. If I were to do that, I'd subtract from the place where the extra yaw is and try to place the ship. If I overlap the template on that maneuver, I'd switch it to the other side. If that doesn't work, I'd just start over but maintain the same speed I had for the initial maneuver.
