After the C-ROC is there only 1 more Epic Expansion left? (Epic gone Full Circle)

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

FFG can and has made their own in house ships. Just because Disney is forcing canon down everyone's throats doesn't mean FFG is forcibly limited to it. Heck I bet Disney is cooler about them making something new vs making a EU ship they want swept under the rug. Some may not agree but I would have bought a raider just cause it looks cool. Very sleak and Imperial looking. It looks like a giant space shark to me vs the rebel whales.

Nice suggestion to keep huge ships coming but I really dislike the open freight look of the ship. It looks more like a cheap civilian ship than an Imperial military transport. At least the Rebels had some hull plating for their space blimps to keep containers in.

Yeah, but the Empire one does one better than hull plating.

Guns.

or...

They both not big enough to be huge ships they are both in the category of large base ships the Luxury Yacht 3000 is only 3 meters longer than Hound's Tooth.

After each faction has two Huge ships I think the design space is pretty full.

If there's money in it they'll find a way to expand the design space. They've done it in standard play - conditions and backwards manoeuvres in Wave X spring to mind.

That bottom pic is the yacht? That thing was barely bigger than a falcon or decimator in Galaxies and had zero guns and crap armor. There has to be much better choices out there.

I hope there's a second Scum ship headed our way, just not sure. Also seems weird to put Jabba, the most powerful Scum character I can think of, with a "small huge" ship instead of the presumably larger, costlier ship.

Well.. They put Palpatine on the Raider where you could argue that he wont meddle in stuff that is in starfighter scale. Why would he risk anything by being on a Lamda unless it was just for ferrying to a SSD a short distance away and then only with sufficient escorts.

Hondo's flying saucer for sure.

scum and rebels have plenty of ships that can be translated to huge scale in this game. The problem is with the Imps not having a lot of 'medium transport' or 'corvette' like ships, everything they have is just too big!

The light cruiser (seen a lot in Rebels) would fit.

And it would be a great platform for Thrawn.

Nope it wont its twice the size of CR-90 or the Rider it would be across half of the play mat :o

Well... the only epic ship to X-Wing scale is the Gozanti (not sure about the C-ROC). The rest are on a sliding scale. They could slide the scale more. They get away with it in Armada where an Imperial-class Star Destroyer is only 2-3 times the length of a CR-90 where it should be over 10 times the length.

C-ROC is in the scale as well and i do not think they will slide the scale any more. And in the case of the light cruiser it would be to much.

I just came to say that that Mandalorian Crusader is drop dead sexy.

Also, I can't see them dropping support for Epic. It really is a great alternative to the usual 100/6 vanilla game, which is fun, but sometimes you want something different than vanilla.

I'm not a fan of that cargo vessel in the picture myself, but I would like to point out that the Rebel Transport also carries open freight, like a real world cargo ship. Look on the underside of the model. All of the cargo is suspended from the belly in multicolor containers.

Looking at the Wookieepedia, I guess you are right. :(

For comparison:

  • Light Cruiser: 325 meters
  • Raider: 150 meters
  • CR90: 126.68 meters
  • GR-75: 90 meters
  • C-ROC: 71.91 meters
  • Gozanti: 63.8 meters
  • Gauntlet: 52.3 meters
  • Luxury Yacht 3000: 50 meters
  • Ghost: 43.9 meters
  • Sentinel: 38 meters
  • Lambda: 20 meters
  • Delta (Krennic's shuttle): 14.39/29.1 meters
  • TIE Reaper (Deathtrooper transport): ?

So... how to get Thrawn in the game? Yet another shuttle?

Yup the empire is still missing the sentinel shuttle ;)

The thing is just an oversized and deformed Lambda... why would anyone want it? (I would rather have one of the 2 shuttles in Rogue One - and I hate both of them)

I would argue that what the Empire needs is a ship that is significantly bigger than anything the rebels have. The Raider looks sinister but fails to elicit the fear and majesty that should be conveyed by a huge Imperial ship. Technical issues of table space and maneuvering can be solved in the design of the ship's base. If the next Imperial ship is less than 1.5x the size of a CR-90, I will be very disappointed.

http://galactic-voyage.com/Old Republic-Capital Ships-Arquitens-class Light Cruiser.htm says 250, which would be workable, 60m to each side extra, which translaters for 15cm extra on each side compared to the CR90. More important would be to build a new stand for it, something which bigger, so the the ships model can reach over a little bit extra without the need to remove it from the stand.

Acquitens Cruiser. This is too easy.

Yup but even then there is at least an enclosure on 4 of the 6 sides. That triangle looking one only has 1 side of closure. Makes it look more like some sort of local port tug than a deep blue freight barge.

I expect to see a 'gun-platform' Scum Epic at some point, but the idea of that with Zuckess crew scares me. All the forced rerolls they want on multiple attacks with no consequences seems a little unbalanced at first glance.

It is simple. If OP starts creating prize support for ONLY EPIC, then EPIC will grow. It will take two years and will be limited in comparison but some of us actually prefer EPIC.

Example. I actually won (left over from previous?) regional dice for winning a Regional Epic Tournament. The amount of folks who came up and said they would have played if they knew there was FFG goodies was distracting.

There is design space but the question is if there are enough staff to handle a separate rules space between Dogfight and EPIC.

This would free up the Dogfight design vs. EPIC. There are problems (Zuckuss) and there will be future problems. But with separate FAQ, Tournament Rules, both could grow. However, I don't think we will ever see this happen in the next 4 years.

I'm sure that scenario will be addressed when the C-ROC expansion comes out as Zuckuss can still be used on there. Also a die can only be rerolled once so it isn't like there is an infinite re-roll.
