OK, think back when you were a newbie and had little; what builds are best?

By clanofwolves, in Star Wars: Armada

I am just past the "beginner setup and game-play" step (done it four times) and I want to have a great "real" game tonight. I'm playing against another green fellow and we're using my collection as he's just about to order the Core Set and take the dive. Anyway, I need two "beginner" and "beer-in-hand" "slightly-competitive" builds that will be equal in points. Here's my current (pre-just-ordered two ships this afternoon) crack selection: 1 Core Set, 1 CR-90 Exp, 2 Neb Exp, 1 Vic SD Exp, 1 Imp Fighters Exp, 1 Imperial SD Exp. Any good lists from this tiny lot?? Thanks!!

Cheers to Friday my friends!

How many games do you guys have under your belts already?

I'd suggest picking up some flotillas for each side and a rebel fighter pack -

That being said, you could probably run an Impstar / Vicstar / Vicstar lean list with a squadron screen / bomber wing okay.

On the Rebels side you're missing a real heavy hitter - I'd suggest getting an Assault Frigate or an MC30 for starters.

You've got access to Yavaris, but without a rebel fighter pack you're kind of limited.

I suppose you could run a dual neb / dual cr90 list with a swarm of XWings, but you'd be missing some really good parts of the list (like the Turbolaser reroute circuits card that exclusively comes in the MC30 pack)

So, there are some lists you could probably easily get up to 400 points in building - beyond that I would suggest picking up a few more packages after you get a good feel for the game.

Good luck!

4 full starter games (past playing around) with no real errors or issues. We're on to the real thing....I hope, haha.

Eggz really has it. Or you could run at 300 points.

Looks like you will need to use all your models tonight. 2 CR90s and 3 Nebs against 2 Vics and 1 ISD.

Hard to say what exactly you should run, but I'd try a Yavaris/Salvation running together because I think that is the only way to really kill the ISD.

Rebel List:

CR90A: Mon Mothma, Redundant Shields

CR90A: Raymus, Tantive IV

Neb Escort: Yavaris

Neb Escort: Salvation, XI7 Turbolaser

Neb Escort: XI7 Turbolaser

Luke and 3 X-Wings

Imp List:

ISD II: Vader, Electronic Counter Measure, Gunnery Team, XX-9

Vic II

Vic II

Howlrunner, Mauler Mithel, 2 Tie Interceptor

This is what I would start with. You may have a different way to upgrade your stuff, but you should use all of your ships. If any of the Rebel ships get into medium, it is likely dead so try to stay at long range. The Imp squads are very good at killing the Rebel squads if they can attack first.

Play a 400 point game. It feels a lot different than 300 points and it should help you understand what you want next for both sides.

Clan, wanted to reiterate a hearty welcome to you and your friend to the Armada community!

I think the lists Undead gave you above are probably best case for what you have (the only change I MIGHT make is putting Intel officer on non-Salvation Neb instead of Redundant Shields on the CR90), just know it's going to be an uphill fight for the Rebels as that Imp list is going to murder anything in it's front arcs, especially if it slips into medium or close range. This is gonna mean whoever plays Rebs will want to queue up nav dial after nav dial to make sure they can dance in long range alongside the flank and sneak in behind them, hopefully being able to drill them front arc to rear arc once or twice.
