Positive Spin has made me dizzy

By ShadoWarrior, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The talent reads: " Whenever any character's Duty would increase, it increases by an additional I per rank of Positive Spin. " (emphasis mine)

Does this mean that when any other player's PC, not just the Diplomat/Propagandist, gains Duty their Duty gets a boost? Or is this just bad wording, using "any" instead of "the", and it affects just the player's PC?

Pretty sure it means "any" as written. Especially as the Improved talent can trigger a Duty, it really seems geared to helping the group out.

Awesome!

It can let the group shoot up in Duty very quickly with a few ranks. With two ranks and a group of 5 PCs, a mission that awards everybody 2 Duty is effectively doubled to 4 duty per PC, for +20 to the group. This really helps if you're trying to gain Contribution Rank to get powerful in the Alliance.

And the PC I created has those 2 ranks, as well as Improved.

If you ever want to pick up the Figurehead spec, you can get another rank of Positive Spin. It might go well with a rapidly rising Contribution Rank too.

Thanks. I'll certainly keep that in mind.

The thing is this is one of those talents that's more about what's going on off camera than on. Something like the merchant tree has talents that kick in "free" money each session to show the character has a little side business of some kind that's not really part of the story.

Positive spin is the same way. When the party goes out and does something, it's just assumed that off camera during downtime the propagandist is tweeting about it, or making a holo clip, or writing an article for the secret rebel base newsletter.

The basic idea is because Duty represents the players standing within the command, the propagandist is doing a little something extra to help ensure the higher ups are aware of what the party, everyone in it, is doing and why its important. So when it comes time to assign a mission or dole out resources the players boss is more likely to push good things thier way because he knows who they are the the impact they will have.

Bad Press is another talent in the same tree, and it, too, requires some off-camera action. The way these talents work within the narrative style of this game system is pretty cool.
