Drea Renthal and R4-B11

By Umber Hawk, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Drea Renthal Pilot states: "After you spend a target lock, you may receive 1 stress token to acquire a target lock."

R4-B11 Scavenged astromech states: "when attacking, if you have a target lock on the defender, you may spend the target lock to choose any or all defense dice. The defender must re-roll the chosen dice."

So. I have a TLT on drea and a target lock on my target enemy ship. I attack with first shot of TLT, spend target lock to re-roll my dice, receive stress, gain target lock. Defender rolls defense dice. I currently have a target lock on the defender so R4 tells me i can spend that target lock to cause defender to re-roll his dice so I do. . . I just spent a target lock so Drea pilot ability says I may receive a stress to acquire a target lock (placing no restriction of "unless you already have a stress token") so I do so. first shot done. SECOND shot with TLT I roll dice, spend target lock for my re-roll, receive stress to acquire new target lock. defender rolls dice, I spend target lock to cause defender to re-roll, I receive stress to acquire target lock. . . . I finish the attack having spent and received back my target lock 4 times, leaving me with 4 stress tokens, and the defender hopefully, after all of that, with 2 damage.

Is that all legit? Or is there something I am missing within timing of attack steps and whatnot that does not allow all of that spending of target lock shenanigans?

Also I assume this would function similarly with a torpedo on Drea. spend target lock to use weapon, receive stress and acquire target lock, use target lock for my dice re-rolls, stress/acquire target lock, use target lock for defender dice re-rolls, stress/acquire target lock. Because it also does not say that "you may not spend this target lock during the attack"

The only thing you're missing is that Psycho Drea dies quickly. (I've tried and tried to get that combo to work.)

Also, if you're not careful you can leave Drea with a pile of stress and no Target Lock. If you've got Manaroo hanging around you can give Drea a new Target Lock, but otherwise her only chance for an off-ramp is to use her pilot ability to acquire a Target Lock on a different ship when it looks like her current attack is going to kill her current target.

Right. I am picturing her flipping out in her cockpit with all that stress, but other then the side effects is all of that order of events legit?

Seems right to me

Yes, you've got the timing right.
