I don't know if it occurred to you, but the boost-system combo is more like a TIE Striker, which is more maneuverable as a result.

Well, with the game so bloated, we are running out of options... I just want to avoid the free-action creep and the "condition" abomination.

Well neither of those was one of the choices, so I'm not sure why you bring them up, but what I meant was I was leaning towards your system and boost version, rather than your plus one speed version.

I was looking at this escape pod and I have to tell you I don't understand the last phrase, if possible, when is that not possible? Wouldn't it be simpler to say a ship range 1-2 gains 2 crew slots and you can equip your crew on them, maybe discard 2 upgrades there, or do you mean a friendly ship with crew slots and you are swapping crew? You do know there is an escape pod token right?

For escape pods, I think it could be interesting to have it be an action, that way it adds an element of risk, as well as it being more realistic, as the crew would have to run to the pod, instead of working on making the ship run.

But it's just an idea.

If it gets any more complicated it would need a condition card expansion for the text. But I don't see range 1-2 as fair game translation. I think range one automatic, and if no one is in that range then deploy the escape pod token that comes with the Rebel Aces expansion. The ship that picks them up can have all of the crew cards, but the upgrade card for the escape pod might say the extra ones (more than crew slot numbers) have to be facedown and swapped with face up as an action.

Indeed, it had bombs (even if in the sims bombs where launched as very slow, unguided torpedoes). I did once a card to fix that .

DESIGN NOTES:

It's an expansion that not only to add the "Imperial Y-Wing", but offer some useful upgrade cards.

The dial is a cross between the X-Wing and the Y-Wing. Maybe too good? The ship was quite capable of keeping track of the enemy in the PC games.

I made it 1 agility because this was hard to dodge enemy fire (maybe because of the large profile?) - but 2 agility wouldn't be far fetched (in this case, the hull or shield should be reduced).
Lore-wise, it would have 5 hull (equivalent to the Y-Wing) and 3 shield (better than the X-Wing), making it tough to kill.

It has only 2 missiles (lore accurate) and the cannon, but an upgrade card that allows it to replace 1 missile for 1 other ordnance (the ship was known to carry torpedoes when needed).

The "Alpha Strike" elite upgrade can be used by pilots with more than one ordinance/canon/turret, but it is specially useful in the Gunboat, allowing an easy missile+cannon combo. Would Tomax Bren be broken with it? You tell me. (if yes, I can restrict the upgrade to the Gunboat or just replace it with another card)

The Gunboat is the most produced/deployed Imperial hyperspace capable starfighter, which I explored in the title: " Imperial Reinforcements ". It adds an interesting mechanic, which really differentiates the Gunboat of the TIEs. Since the common TIEs had no hyperspace, and the high tech, hyperspace capable TIEs (Defender, Avenger), are so rare that wouldn't be available everywhere, that's the job of the Gunboats. It also emulates the massive military power of the Empire and remind the PC old sims (where the Imperials are able to call Gunboats as reinforcements).
I don't know if the price is right (is deploying later, but where you want, actually a drawback?)

Xeal was a colleague of Mareek Stele's who was MIA and later returned to action with "Killer Eyes".
Noble Calder 's ability is kind of uninspired, so suggestions are most welcome. Not many information about this guy, except that he was the commander of a squad (Veerpal?). Maybe he could be the lower PS unique pilot instead of Xeal (swap the PS of both).
I added the other guy (Arajen Turmen) here, with a wonky ability, as an alternative.
Mareek Stele piloted the Gunboat, but this wasn't one ship who made him famous (like the Defender, the Avenger and the Missile Boat).

Possible pilots: (in Legends)

  • Gunboat generics (Squadrons): Nu, Tau, Mau, Mu, Rho, Eagle, Raven, Talon, Veerpal
  • Gunboat uniques: Arajen Turmen, Noble Calder, Xeal (but not specially this ship), Mareek Stele

Why can't this be real? Please, FFG. This guy is doing you a favor. Skip card development and just use these when you finally make the Gunboat.

This might be a bit much on ships with 3 native attack dice like a Tie Defender. Maybe limit it to 2 or fewer attack dice ships or just go ahead and limit it to the gunboat as something special for that ship.

I think it's great. The only Imperial ships that could take this are the Defender and the Lambda. I feel it may be a bit unbalanced on the Syck.

I also meant to mention that I really like this new mechanic of yours. I believe this is the second upgrade where you used the idea of adding a die then removing a result - resulting in an increase in the probability of a roll without increasing the magnitude of the result. Plus, as this card shows, you can also link it to additional affects.

I think I'll make it "Imperial Only", so it won't help any ships that don't need help.

Yeah, something like: "When defending, during the Modify Dice step, if the defender has an evade or focus token, remove that token and assign it to your ship." This may be better on some sort of Scum ship (because it reminds me of piracy) but that was the first thing that I could come up with.

Also, at some point, can you make an expansion pack (like you did with the Gunboat) for the TIE Reaper from Rogue One?

What about something like this: "When attacking, remove 1 evade or focus token from the defender." BTW, is there any known Decimator in the lore? Or any different model? I find very few info on that ship.

From Wookipedia:

Decimators were used as either long-range reconnaissance units or picket ships stationed along the perimeter of Imperial fleets . Vessels of this class were also used to break through enemy blockades to deploy raiding parties.

The command of a VT-49 was a point of accomplishment and pride for the middle ranks of the Imperial Navy . It was usually seen as a stepping stone on the path towards command of a capital ship .

Good point about the defenders. Tie/x7 can't take them and Tie/D probably won't want them since it would use their cannon slot and deny them two attacks.
