For those that have product...

By Muffin Man, in Star Wars: Destiny

I am one of the few that was able to get multiple boxes upon release. And I had some very fortunate pulls with the loose boosters I bought. So I know this will not apply to everyone, but if you are able to play multiple decks whether it be the same colors but different characters or something completely new. Try something new out, it helps increase your knowledge of the game so much and is way fun if you're getting burnt out on a certain deck.

I went from vader/raider, to Vader/jabba, to dooku/jabba, changing out cards as I go. So much fun, falling in love with this game more and more every day.

Guess this will not be a popular post :o

I managed to get about a dozen boosters before supply ran out, so there isn't much I can do apart from tweak the starter decks.

I've spent just over £170 on Destiny so far:

x2 Rey Starter

x2 Kylo Starter

x37 boosters

And I've only got the following characters:

x3 First Order Stormtrooper

x1 Vader

x2 Kylo

x1 Tusken Raider

x2 Rey

x2 Finn

x1 Rebel Trooper

x1 Padawan

x1 Hired Gun

So I can only make around 6 decks:

eKylo + rVader
rVader + Trooper, Trooper
3 Trooper + Tusken
eRey + eFinn
eRey + Padawan + Trooper
eRey + Padawan + Hired Gun

That sounds pretty reasonable to me! I guess you could buy a couple of singles to get more options, which would be financially cheaper than buying more boosters with cards you don't need.

Yeah I suppose it's not bad - especially since I'm only aiming to play casually and compared to MtG...

I just really don't like the character system + CCG element. It'd be like basic lands being rares...

I've got a Rey and Kylo Starter Set + 54 Boosters total. I'm pretty comfortable with the amount, though I would still like some certain cards.

After doing some trading with my buddies I got:

  • 2xRey
  • 1xFinn
  • 2xHired Gun
  • 2xPoe Dameron
  • 1xAdmiral Ackbar
  • 2xKylo Ren
  • 2xPhasma
  • 2x FO Stormtrooper
  • 1xGeneral Grievous
  • 1xVader
  • 2xCount Dooku
  • 2xJabba the Hutt
  • 1xJango Fett
  • 1xTusken Raider

Wich is pretty decent as far as I'm concerned.

I'm currently running 4 Decks out of the box without having to shuffle cards around.

  • ePhasma and 2 Troopers
  • eJabba and Jango
  • eDooku and Grievous
  • and Poe and 2 Hired Guns

They're not optimized by any stretch. I'd really like a second Jango for example.

I also haven't got to play that much yet. Like a dozen matches total.

I keep track of my decks and cards with an Excel Sheet though, so I can build and experiment with ease without worry that I scrap a good deck and then don't remember wich cards went into it.

With only one set of cards currently out, I too have mostly built "the best blue/yellow villain" deck. (Or red/blue hero deck etc.) Then, when I sit down to play I choose which characters I want to use this time. As more sets become available, more decks built for a specific character(s) will begin to happen.

I have almost a complete playset and I find myself mostly playing Han+Rey Ackbar +2 hired guns and Luke+Padawan.

I just bought the following so far:

2 x Kylo-Starter

2 x Rey-Starter

150 Boosters (4 full boxes and 6 single booster)

I am glad that I got nearly every character (only Jabba missing) and so I am trying all possible decks... as I only play at home with my girlfriend I can try out everything I want and it makes a lot of fun!!!

As soon As I recognized lack of supply I did already pre-order four displays of Spirit of Rebellion after it has been announced! :)

wave 1 I got 1 of each starter and 1 booster box plus 1 pack. I opened first pack ever and got Vader. Developed that loving feeling instantly haha. So I got all the blue legendaries in the booster box. I had vader/raider from the get go. I felt I had a number of deck options at that point.

since then I doubled down then splurged on a third booster box! At that point I only needed 5 cards to complete the set, so I bought them online. Thank you Team Covanent. Now with a complete set I feel deck options are limitless.

I found each booster box had a very good spread of cards. Very impressed.

Sure, but that Vader alone could probably trade for (in terms of raw value, at MM prices) Jango Fett x2, Veers x2, a Nightsister and a Bala-Tik. Actually, that'd be a REALLY good trade for the other guy if you only got that much.

Then, with that character pool, there are a ton of decks you can make. My current favorite deck is eVeers/Nightsister/Bala. I'm undefeated with it. It's bonkers. Also, if you've only actually pulled 3 characters from the 37 boosters you opened, that must mean you have 34 other rares to work with, in terms of deck building.

You're doing fine. You just need to do a bit of trading, which is the tedious part of a CCG, but whacha gonna do?

Saying that trading is the tedious part of a CCG is like saying that modeling is the tedious part of 40k.

It is . That's why I played X-Wing and not 40k, despite my initial attraction to 40k.

You can enjoy a game on the whole without embracing every aspect of the pre-game requirements.

I find the very CCG model to be loathsome, but the quality of SW Destiny as a game is enough to keep me around despite that.

You can, but it sort of defeats half the point of the hobby if you don't... hobby. Tell me, do you really like buying multiples of that one useless ship just for a couple extra mini euro cards?

There is a reason why people love FFG for their LCGs. It avoids a lot of the hassle and expense of CCGs.

I didn't buy any Destiny until the 4th shipment, was able to pick up 3 boxes with little trouble from LGS. I put together a few decks and yes, they are fun to have. The card pool is just too small right now to get supper excited about the different game mechanics you can build decks around, but the fact the game allows different themes to build around is great.

How are you avoiding expense without a secondary market? Tell me how many individual packs you have to buy for a top tier deck in any of FFG's LCGs.

I purchased one box and 20 or so packs along with 1 rey and 1 kylo started. I did a small amount of trading and I have 4 viable decks. Han/rey, jango/grevious, leia/padme and kylo/dooku. They are all E decks as much as possible except I need one more dooku.

How much for a top tier deck after the first release of an LCG? A hell of a lot less than I spent on Destiny. While not true of Destiny because of the supply issues, the secondary market does allow one to simply buy the exact cards they need for a CCG deck fairly easily. Those decks can still run far more than buying a few LCG expansions.

I think you're being a little disingenuous. I haven't played most of FFG's other properties, but I've seen the breakdown from people who have and a top tier deck will easily cost as much as one in Magic. Conquest is their only LCG that I actually bothered with, and at launch it costed a minimum of $120 to have a full playset of any given rare ($40 for a core set x 3). Now, pick a top tier deck from Destiny and tell me how much it would cost to build based on singles prices alone.

While I agree with most of what you post this statement does bear the disclaimer that it depends. eVader/Radier will cost upwards of $80 alone with just vader and the blue upgrades are still higher than they should be. So that paticular deck will cost more than the $120 you quoted. EHan/hired gun/hired gun will get pretty close too, at least over a hundred. The secondary market is still shit, it may level out but right now there are still some cards way overpriced and others rising as the meta developes.

I have to agree, the LCGs can be just as expensive as CCGs. Look at the SWLCG and compare how many useless or less than great cards you have to buy in packs that have a couple good cards that you actually want. I don't want to know how many copies of "Twist of Fate" I have since it's in so many pods.

i almost have a full set of everything (2 of each, 4 of each neutral) not including 4 legendary neutrals and shy a few legendary's that i maybe only have 1 of. I can easily make 2 decks, 1 hero 1 villain, but if you're looking to make multiple villain or hero decks, as there are lots of staple villain and hero cards in the common, uncommon, rare and legendary piles that make it hard to make mutliple decks without having to switch cards back and forth, or to test them against one another

some that immediately come to mind: Force throw, One with the force, Sith Holocron, Back up Muscle, etc

Yeah, you get that with Destiny too. Just to get a play set of cards out of the starters runs $60.

That's assuming you want to play with those cards. If you don't you can buy individual singles. What's the alternative with the LCGs?
