I hope Disney are doing this tinkering for an actual purpose.
But hang on, isn't the original name canon?

I don't think the ship is ever named in the films. Blockade Runner is how I remember it growing up. Then Corellian Corvette, then somewhere along the line CR-90.
I'm not that bothered. Ford can make cars in Australia or the USA if they want to. They can even make the same models.

My guess it's more like a "cuz we can" attitude. Heck they even rework how lightsabers work now (Kiber crystals)... because of reasons... Even worse they turn back to a very early and rather stupid concept form the first script of Star Wars where the crystals were the items that made it possible for the Jedi to feel the Force.
By the way, did you notice how weak the Stromtrooper armor became? Stormies now can be killed by sticks
At least Ewoks used big stones and poisoned darts and had superior numbers and field knowledge but Rogue One was just lame.

A civilian design appearing in rebel fleets would make sense, and wouldn't arouse suspicion. A design affiliated with a specific planet would raise serious red flags. Sure they could try to explain it away once or twice with theft, but the number we've seen in the movies would be ridiculous.
I really hope they keep the CR90 lore. There is so much history there. It will always be the CR90 to me.
It's the Toyota Hilux of spaceships. Every terrorist cell in the galaxy has one puttering around with most of its innards on full display and a giant gun strapped into the bed.
All they're doing is finishing the transition from the EU having Corellia as the center of the Rebel world to Aldaraan. At it means is that Rebels is making more money than Han Solo merch.

That's what we have to thank Disney for. The absence of giant space bunnies.

Not sure whether I love or hate Disney, it's certainly all in their wheelhouse.

Lightsabers have always used crystals, and it was in the 'Clone Wars' series that those crystals were first identified as Kyber crystals, long before Disney bought the franchise. They were playing the hand they were dealt, you can't blame Disney for everything.
And I'm not convinced that 'Rogue One' was suggesting the storm troopers were killed by the sticks - but I don't think it's that farfetched to suggest that an force sensitive expert in martial arts (who, by the way, is able to hear a stormtrooper's finger on a trigger) could knock out a storm trooper. That armour has plenty of weak spots, and we know that the quality of stormtrooper armour declined after the fall of the Republic.
I mean, come on dude, this is a world where space wizards can move things without touching them, and influence people's thoughts. If you can handle the artistic license that allows a bunch of teddies to fashion siege weapons and gliders out of nowhere, and then take on an army that's lightyears ahead in terms of technology, I'm surprised you draw the line at the far less tenuous script of Rogue One.
All I'm saying is, it's easy to look for faults, because, hey, it's Disney, they mess stuff up. But if you actually look at how Disney have managed both the Lucasfilm and Marvel acquisitions, it seems to me that they've given producers the financial backing to be ambitious, without being heavy handed. It's not what we've come to expect from them, but I'm happy with the job they've done. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have got to enjoy two awesome films and a huge amount of content besides.
Edited by ceejlekabeejleNext the MC80 will be hence called the Fish Tank Cruiser and only be 600 meters long...
I don't get it, Wookiepedia still lists the craft as a CR-90. What's the problem?
The Databank calls it an Alderaanian cruiser, but nothing to say it isn't manufactured and purchased from the Corellian Enginering Corporation.
Besides, as far as Armada is concerned, this unit is the CR-90 Corellian Corvette. It's already printed, I don't think FFG would go the distance to rename the craft for another printing.

Wait what, is that Captain Bucky O'hair?
I got that comic when I was a child, back in 1977.
It was kind of "The Magnificent Seven" movie.

Probably just more tweaking just to put their stamp on it. Seen instances of it before like with the official size of the A-Wing Fighter, Executor-Class SSD and Home One.

In EU lightsabers use crystals yes but they have nothing to do with the Kiber crystal which is indeed a crystal that can enhance Force powers of a Jedi. But lightsabers use different ones, usually two. One that focuses the blade's energy, that's the "lens" made of a crystal and one for the color that enhances the powers of the blade and may grant it special characteristics - see Corran Horn's lightsaber for example. These crystals may be almost any crystals from synthetics to natural ones and to certain pearls. The Jedi brought those crystals from sacred places most notably form the Force caves of Ilum where it was part of a passage of the Padawan rite for the younglings to find their crystal. But if they were in need (such as being on a battlefiled) they could use a wide variety of crystals for their lightsaber. There were rumors that some Jedi even tried out Tsils before they realized that they are sentient beings.
On the "bunch of teddies" thought: I again suggest everyone to read the book, they were far more savage there than in the movie. In fact in an early script there was a scene where those "teddies" tore apart a stormie with their claws - obviously it was later scrapped.

Not yet, I didn't really like the previous Disneyverse books so far. Plagueis wasn't bad though.
Edited by NorellPlagueis is non-canon. It was not released under Disney. Really, though? You didn't like Lost Stars or Tarkin??
I'm reading Tarkin now and it's absolute tripe (though I do like the rebels' scheme). If that's the zenith of Star Wars fiction I won't delve any deeper.
Edited by CactusKyber crystals now power the Death Star as well don't they? Versatile little crystals....
This is such a non-sequitur.
If the NYPD donates 3 police cruisers to a cause, you could call them "NYPD cruisers", but they'd still be impalas.

They did even in the old canon

Its absolute tripe except for the parts of it you like. Nice. It is not the zenith though it was well received. If we are gonna talk about just fiction and not limit ourselves to books, I think the two best parts of the new canon are Lost Stars and the Darth Vader comic book.
Also you haters know that Timothy Zahn has written a new Thrawn book right? It is releasing in April.

Actually, this did (powered the superlaser at least):
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Energy_crystal
though the Death Star as a whole was powered by its hypermatter reactor.
The newcanon DS1 still has a hypermatter reactor - but the superlaser beam is as destructive as it is because of the kyber crystals incorporated.
Edited by IronlordDo I get mailed 4-5 Alderaan Cruiser models with new cards? I could go for that.

"Star Wars has had a checkered relationship with comics ever since some guy at Marvel ..."
Disney gave the franchise to their comic division which just happens to be Marvel (you know, the same place that gave Star Wars the giant space bunnies in the first place), so I'm less optimistic about the continuing quality (or lack therof) of the comics.

He is? Cool, a newcanon book that might actually be worth reading.
