CR90 corvette renamed

By tenchi2a, in Star Wars: Armada

So this may not be a surprise, but it looks like Disney strikes again.

I was on http://www.starwars.com/ and it appears that what was once the Corellian CR90 corvette is now a Alderaan cruisers. with all references to Corellia removed. the write-up goes on to imply that there where a series of these built for Alderaan.

Now where Wookieepedia tries to claim this is just an also known as. the Starwars.com article seem to imply its the only name.

It used to be known as only the Rebel Blockade Runner. Heh.

Just pretend a batch were made for Alderaan, but that other varieties and versions exist. All made in Corellia. Or maybe produced on license. Something like that.

Problem solved.

I'm fine with it, even if it'll take a while to get used too.

But I would side with the leader of the Mean Green Team, I can easily see the 'CR90's as we know them' as being built under license with after market parts or adjustments in order to better suit Alderaan's needs. Thus, a CR70 and a CR90 may become even more closely associated.

I'm more concerned that the B-wing 'Blade Wing' prototype mentions that it killed an Imperial battleship (IE, an Imperial Light Cruiser), The Rogue One Imperial tanks are CAT's (Lily CAT horror aside, not the most inspiring name), and that Hammerhead corvettes now have strong hulls, strong engines, and heavy weapons (frigging OP freighters).

Never said it was a problem just that the Disney Nazis are hard at work destroying the extended universe :)

Dude that's not cool. I know we're on the internet, but just renaming a fictional spaceship is barely more than a mild annoyance. If this had happened 20 years ago in a roleplayer's guide nobody would be even thinking about it.

Call it what you will. I still refer to it as a Corvette or CR-90.

I think since newcanon tie-ins are still calling it the CR-90, Wookieepedia hasn't changed the title.

Similarly - while Kuat makes ISDs, it's not the only place that manufactures them - Corellia does too according to Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide. This I think is a nod to the very early EU (Star Wars Poster Monthly etc) which portrays the ISD Devastator as a "Corellian heavy cruiser" (and in the movie we had Han talking about outrunning "the big Corellian ships").

So, just as we can have Corellian versions of Kuat Drive Yards ships, we can have Alderaanian versions of Corellian ships.

EU is a mess. Disney since they own it are making a cleaner version now. Mistakes will be made as now they are under a microscope. So much of the EU was crap. Now they can work on tighter cross overs between movies, shows, comics, etc.

They have also changed the length. Used to be 150m. Now it's a bit shorter at 126m

I think you're overreacting. Alderaan Cruiser could just be a casual term used for the CR90 because of it's popularity with Bail Organa and the Alderaanian elite. There's nothing in the databank entry that directly suggests that it's not a Corellian made ship. Also, the SW databank rarely ever displays detailed specs of starships so not seeing the words "CR-90 Corvette" is not really a concern to me.

I hope they keep it as an AKA or alt build. If they change it so that it is an Alderaan only design... that would be stupid.

A civilian design appearing in rebel fleets would make sense, and wouldn't arouse suspicion. A design affiliated with a specific planet would raise serious red flags. Sure they could try to explain it away once or twice with theft, but the number we've seen in the movies would be ridiculous.

I really hope they keep the CR90 lore. There is so much history there. It will always be the CR90 to me.

"You can't do that! Alderaan is a peaceful planet; we have no weapons!" Leia

"Half-a-dozen of your cruisers just attacked a data base that served no offensive purpose." Tarkin

"Ummm..." Leia

OP is just butthurt that his favorite Skywalker great great grand nephew's brother in law isn't canon anymore. Systematically destroying the EU my trash compactor. That's ludicrous. Most of the EU was a heaping mountain of contradictory garbage with a few bright gems in it. Disney has been taking the best of these gems and reincorporating them where they can and going in bold new directions where they don't want to. Now we can argue how well some of this bold new direction is working especially in regards to episode 7 but if they have gone out of their way to bring stuff like Thrawn, TIE Defenders, and the like back into canon your whole supposition falls on its face.

Amen, brother. Amen

Let's be honest - if it weren't for Disney, we wouldn't have 'The Force Awakens' or 'Rogue One', and Disney are likely the reason for their quality. We wouldn't have the Marvel comics, which are proving to be awesome. We wouldn't have Rebels. We wouldn't even have had 'Battlefront', which for all its criticism brought Star Wars back to games consoles in a thematically incredible format. And we certainly wouldn't have had the seamless continuity between them, the way that they interweave with one another, or the fun of spotting easter eggs.

In fact, if you look at what Lucasfilm had planned for Star Wars, you'll be on your knees kissing the feet of Mickey Mouse.

So if they want to change the name of a corvette, and even change its length, I can handle it. I'll keep calling it a CR-90, and just enjoy how they play on the board.

Just another thing on the ever longer list of why dislike the Disneyverse.

This is the best.

Wasn't it Complete Vehicles where the new length first appeared?

Yeah they're slowly starting to change the sizes of several of star war's iconic ships. The TIE/LN is now supposed to be 8.8 meters (originally 6.3 meters), the X-Wing is 13.4 meters (originally 12.5 meters) and the Y-Wing is 16.2 meters (originally 16 meters).

Please, I'm still weirded out by seeing the Disney logo on Star Wars stuff.

In 5 years we'll be seeing ads for "Disney's, Star Wars"

There's worse.

That's what we have to thank Disney for. The absence of giant space bunnies.

Do you know if there's a particular reason for this? I know that in the Complete Vehicles book they took the opportunity to resolve how an R2 droid would fit into the back of a Naboo starfighter (by telescoping the head). Are they tweaking the dimensions to better reflect their dimensions in the films?

Hyperbole much?

These comics. They're amazing.
