Super-Fancy Party Shenanigans?

By borticus, in Game Masters

Hey guys, I'm running a little low on creativity at the moment and I could use some brainstorming for my next session (coming up this Sunday, 2/5)

My players are about to be employed as "shadow security" (posing as guests or staff, but actually employed/licensed as security) for an extremely-super-duper, beyond-crazy-fancy party, where the richest and most powerful CEOs/VPs/etc. of the Corporate Sector are celebrating some recent promotions within their ranks. Lots of celebrities and other VIPs also in attendance, as it's a place where such folks go "to be seen."

I have plenty of plans for stuff that's going to go on that will help with some of the primary plot, but I could use a few more ideas for B and C plots that could likely be wrapped up in a single ~5 hour session. Or even just character descriptions or small interludes and vignettes that can be used to keep the momentum rolling.

So... what do the turbo-rich of the Corporate Sector do at private parties held at exclusive ski lodges? And what can a band of almost-law-abiding adventurers experience that'd be worth writing home about?

Thanks in advance!

Epic gambling that can either make them millionares or bankrupt them. I imagine this is exactly the kind of place that Lando would be, so a cheeky camino doesn't hurt.

Competitions are another one, some corp sector fellows might either own slaves or sponsored racers/shock boxers that they use to stage ridiculous contests. Having inclined players enter those might provide the right elements of party and get the socialite gears grinding.

Have the owner stage his own murder, leaving the bewlidered guests to figure out the culpret, only to turn up a hour in perfectly fine; replica droids are sure handy!

If you haven't seen Firefly then:

1) What's wrong with you?

2) Get it and watch the episode "Shindig".

A jealous/spurned lover tries to embarrass their married (and parenting) S.O. - in front of business contacts that frown on extra marital affairs as it shows lack of commitment and morals etc. Or the opposite - a CEO needs someone to act as their 'bit on the side'

One of the PCs overhears the rumor of an assassin in the room. Is there an assassin or just a ploy to test security????

The soup/caviar/third course etc tastes off... why? (substandard ingredients - (tax dodge/smuggled/illegal ingredient), disgruntled kitchen staff - (trade union dispute or poison that is gene targeted to one victim.. see idea above.

Actually, if you use the tabloids as inspiration - wild, drug fueled orgies with prostitutes of both (every?) gender and sometimes under age, where those accidentally killed are dumped and it's covered up by the 'school tie network'....

Help resolve a love triangle among the children of powerful tycoon families. Basically an overwrought CW episode B-plot. Depending on how it shakes out, there may be benefits or setbacks to the PCs. Bonus points if the "bad" option makes the PCs' lives easier and the "good" option hinders them a bit.

A pickpocketing ring has infiltrated the catering company.

An unrelated team is pulling off a full "Mission: Impossible" style infiltration at the same time.

I'm a little late but I still want to contribute! Check out this article from the Alexandrian. It talks about structuring a party scenario.

Hella illegal drugs being used wantonly and carelessly? Like, the kind that can explode and kill you if you’re in the same room with them when the container is opened in an inappropriate manner? Or maybe they kill everyone else in the room that isn’t holding the container?

Sentient beings that are turned into drugs and then used? What if the sentient beings in question are actually complicit in the deal? What if this is their form of attaining sainthood or everlasting life?

Slaves being brought in for the express purpose of doing a live snuff holovid? What if the right to pull the trigger is being auctioned off to the highest bidder?

I can imagine all sorts of “Worst Hollywood/NYC Party Gone Wrong” sorts of events happening….

-The building in which the party is being held has a vault with probable untold riches in the sub-basement. The security is thin down there because most of the building staff are busy with the event. A well-organised criminal group is in the middle of their big vault heist when they're interrupted by a more amateur criminal group, also after the vault. Wackiness ensues. Extra fun if both groups were hired by people who are attending the party.

-One of the dishes at the event is some kind of gigantic space lobster. The gigantic space lobsters escape from captivity. They are really dangerous.

-Someone vanishes in the middle of the party and it turns out they've eluded their handlers in order to defect to another corporation.

Thought of something else.
