"Cannot Get Your Ship Out: the speed zero maneuver" Armada blog February updates

By Snipafist, in Star Wars: Armada

Your site is great. Keep up the fun and informative articles!

I have a question about how you explained Dash's rule. You say that it's one roll, so if you were fighting 3 squads, you can't re-roll one die 3 times. But you also said that in range of 2 ships is like being in range of 2 BCC. Those statements are opposite each other cause the BCCs would let you roll one die several time.

Since Dash only has 1 bomber die, you must be correct in it working like multiple BCCs. So then why would the anti squadron not also work the same way?

Yep, John made a typo there. It's X dice rerolled in one pull, so he effectively has one anti-ship reroll at all times regardless of the number of things he's at distance 1 of.

Yeah my bad. I'll change it when I get home tonight from work.

It was bothering me, being wrong on the Internet. Fixed it now.

You are guys are pouring out content at a truly precipitous rate. Keep it up, awesome stuff!

Thanks! We've got a lot of catching up to do when our goal is to eventually have an article for everything. That means one article for every ship and squadron and commander as well as articles on other game concepts and then eventually more articles on actually using some of those things together (like building a fleet, or using a combination of squadrons, or deployment strategies depending on different matchups, etc.). That's quite a bit and I'm trying not to think about how huge the work pile ahead of us still is, haha. But I enjoy writing the articles overall so it's been a fun project so far (I'm sure John feels the same way) and we've been getting a lot of views (several articles are just under 400 views) and positive responses so it's been rewarding.

Yeah, I strangely find it relaxing to talk about everything and make bad jokes. It's also making me want to try out some of the ideas I have (a wings and e wings, for example). It's also nice having my opinions validated about everything and that people like my explanations and advice. Feels good, man!

Not sure I'd say "everything," haha, but I understand what you mean ;).

John's my buddy and I'm happy he's working with me on the blog, but not even we completely agree on everything regarding Armada, so I don't expect the average reader to do so either.

You know when you go into a project thinking it won't take long but then you keep thinking of things that should get done? Yeah. The ship reviews have so many moving parts that they seem like they're going to reliably be big projects. On that note, the Gladiator-class Star Destroyer article is up and I hope you enjoy it. Coming up next (tomorrow, likely?) a shorter article on ordnance upgrades, I suspect.

I also changed the title of this thread, as sooner or later we can't just keep updating the same thread forever and it makes sense to sort it by month.

Why do you think I've been consistently working on squadrons and slacking some on the Commander's Corner bits? Longer articles mid-week are NOT easily doable for me, haha.

An amusing point on hwk290's.

If you add Toryn Farr you can run a swarm of mini tychos...... delicious buffed counter 2 and all squads always free to roam.

Finishing up the Wave 2 Rebel squadrons with Scurrgs. Spoiler alert: it gets slightly weird because I found it funny.

So what you are saying is, Scurrgs go perfectly with Ewings, as the Ewings have unprecedented ability to pick of the specific squadrons blocking the Scurrgs from moving............

I had never considered them together, but yeah, it could work! I'd probably use X wings some too, just because they're cheaper, but if you need the squadron preventing you from Gritting your way out killed....

If ECM;s are the better defence for an ISD than Reinforced Blast Doors, why is Tagge not the better admiral?

Its one of the questions that has been bothering me recently, and isnt really directed at you specifically.

I think ECM is not a better defence than RBD. In reality it is situational: against bombers/small ships RBD is better, against large dice pools ECM is better.

The problem with Tagge is that he is turn-based and effectively only protects your ships during turn 2 and turn 4 fights.

They're in my opinion overall better but it's very meta-dependent. If your meta is mostly swarms and bombers where ECMs might not save you 3 damage total, then I'd much rather have Reinforced Blast Doors. So long as the threat of an accuracy+decent damage attack is real, though, the ECMs have a place.

Tagge is problematic. The ECMs sometimes help him with the double-spend but it's so tempo and usage dependent and I find it frequently falls apart in real play when it "seems like" it should do better on the table.
