"Cannot Get Your Ship Out: the speed zero maneuver" Armada blog February updates

By Snipafist, in Star Wars: Armada

My friend (and occasional-forums-poster) @geek19 have finally come together to produce an Armada blog!

Our intention for the blog for the intermediate future is to function as a resource for newer players. John and I are the most experienced/competitive players in our growing community and so we find ourselves frequently repeating advice as to what kind of things to consider with the numerous different moving parts of Armada. It occurred to us that simply having all the data available in detail in one location would be better for everybody, but we also wanted to maintain the conversational tone of an email or face-to-face interaction. For now, we have started with wave one squadrons but we intend to move on to ships, commanders, upgrades, fleet building, objective selection, deployment, formations, etc., so please bear with us as we slowly dig through our to-do pile.

We will be updating the blog at least twice a week and early on likely more than that as we do our best to play a mean game of catch-up. If anyone had any questions or requests for articles, let us know!

Great idea. I look forward to reading through it.

Cool, I'll start reading it. :)

Sweet several articles for me to enjoy!

Looks great so far.

No reverse maneuver. Nor is there a flip and burn maneuver.

Looks sweet.

Lots of good stuff especially for the squad game the way it is in Wave 5.

Hey neat!

Read all the articles, and the only thing I could wrong was that you guys managed to discuss Zetrik withot mentioning his synergy with Bossk.

Great stuff. Highly recommend especially to anyone looking to shore up their squadron game, cuz each article is on pointz

I seriously love the sheer quantity of community strategy content there is for this game. You guys are awesome.

Being of excellent quality as well is just icing.

And here I came expecting to find the chance to relate a story of 2 ISD-IIs locked in a head on collision because neither of us fully understood how to handle collisions....great work.

Actually the same thing occurred to me last night mid-Armada game (about an hour after I updated with the TIE Advanced section): oh crap, how could I have neglected to point out his synergy with Bossk? I sent myself a reminder email about it and everything. It's been remedied ;).

If it's of any interest to anyone, the title comes from the moment in Empire Strikes Back where Yoda is mocking Luke for being unable to get his X-Wing out of the bog. It's become a kind of silly quote used in our in-group for when somebody is trying to do something but generally not having much success, and particularly when you're stuck going speed 0, often due to overlapping. We wanted a bit of a silly title, so we just kind of ran with it.

With the flip and burn reference, I assume you've read the Expanse? If so, I appreciate the reference, haha.

Ha, the usage of the name came when we were playing DnD way back when and our party (4th edition) had a wizard (who could summon on command a 3x3 grid of insta-damage death) and me as the reach weapon fighter (that kept everyone in place and prevented them from LEAVING, lest they want an attack of opportunity). Once a guy got locked in a swarm of AoE death, he wasn't going anywhere. So we just started quoting Yoda and being general pains in the butt to enemies.

I'll read 'em too when I'm not working to make plastic-crack-addiction cash.

I did use the 0 speed for two turns straight to keep 2 Nebs in my firing Arcs of a VSD and it allowed me to kill one and the other went off-mat. Fun!!

Oh yeah, speed 0 comes in handy on that very rare occasion and sometimes people just don't expect it at all because most of us aren't thinking about it as a realistic option mid-game.

TIE Bombers article is up!

Had a ridiculous brinkmanship game against Ginkapo a few weeks back. He brought three Glads and change against my Mothma swarm. I had first; he had Demo. I wasn't letting him get a Demo shot without parking in a shrimp side arc; he wasn't letting me get a last-first on Demo because he was threatening elsewhere. So we parked at medium range of each other and threw space-snowballs for a round.

Speed 0 demo. That was an amusing game

TIE Interceptor article is up, finishing off the wave one (and friends) Imperial squadrons review series.

Next up I'll likely be discussing Imperial commanders and then some ships. I'm going to need some time to play around with the Vassal interface so I can better illustrate some points, I think.

Keep writing good articles!

Your encouragement is much appreciated! Given I'm a fan of your work as well, it's a rewarding thing to see.

The same goes for a couple other guys who've commented so far on this thread. It's good to feel like John and I are contributing to the community, haha.

clarifying who exactly is doing the contributing

I love this blog already

Sorry I'm not being as timely on the Rebel articles. I'm working on them, real life is getting in the way. My plan for the next few weeks is to alternate between squadron articles and Commander articles.

Admiral Motti article is up!
