large model movement for newbs

By 1mikethebuilder1, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Is there a good demo page or vid for large model movement? Still confused despite the guide in the rules reference. Also, can a large unit 'squeeze' through a narrow space as long as he ends his movement in an open area, or is he blocked? Thanks

Large figures move 1 space at a time just like any figure. They can move in all 4 orthogonal directions. To move through corridors, they need to move 'sideways' (there is no facing in Imperial Assault, so technically sideways does not exist).

A large figure can rotate by spending 1mp to manoeuvre. Note that rotation is placement, you are picking up the figure, then placing it 90 degrees so that the new spaces it occupies shares at least half of the spaces it exited.

Try to google "large figure movement boardgamegeek".

For example starting here gets you to a number of other threads asking about large figure movement: Large figures movement

For Squeezing unless the Large figure has mobile as a keyword they can get trapped by narrow areas. For example Nexu vs Jabba, The Nexu can set up without problem in any of the current deployment zones and be able to move out due to the Mobile trait. Jabba will be trapped in most of the current starting area's due to his size and not being mobile. Now this isn't an issue for Jabba as you generally don't want him moving about the map but he is an example of a large figure that will have difficulty moving about. Massive figures do not have to worry about blocking terrain like Large figures do and simply stomp around still taking into account movement restrictions for large figures when it comes to diagonal movement.

Nexu still needs 2-space wide corridors to move using Mobile. Mobile allows him to ignore blocking and impassible terrain spaces and edges, which Jabba can't do.

Nexu also has Pounce, which is not movement, it is a placement within 3 spaces - so it could get through 1-width corridors which are not a normal thing in the game but appear in some campaign missions, in Return to Hoth at least.

(Massive and Mobile work similarly for movement, but Massive figures can also end movement on top of other figures.)
