So I am enjoying learning the game mechanics and commanding capital ships. I have the Core plus another VSD, an ISD, 1 more CR-90, 2 more Frigates and some additional fighters. A Home One is on it's way. I'm really into the casual play and I like capital ship battles most of all. As I experiment and have fun with other newbies (friends and family I'm tempting/dragging/enticing along), what ships should I add. Just as a disclaimer, most of my friends are of the dark-side variety and we usually play Imps vs. Imps.......
So as I get into this awesome game...what is the best next fix?
A Gladiator.
you will probably be flooded with responses telling you by a bunch of these and a bunch of those. Don't listen buy what you want buy what like. Especially if your just playing casually.
Interdictors are a blast to play with in casual games.
You should also see if you can grab these guys for a campaign, its a great way to get a fair amount of games in in a casual but engaging environment.
I have read up a bit on the Gladiator SD, I just have to get beyond the iconic missing spear tip, haha.
And yes, although I didn't understand much of the thread, the Interdictor thread here on the forum was way intriguing....I might be too green to grasp the interactions, but it seems a bit more iconic.
My first priority has been getting at least one copy of each. I find the novelty of different arcs and maneuvering capabilities, as well as having 1 copy of each upgrade card being the best way to keep each play exciting. You can proxy cards, but it's not as easy to proxy firing arcs etc.
Getting the objectives with the campaign was a huge deal for me. For casual play, it's hard to beat the large changes that each objective brings. One list can get played several times with totally different results based on the objective in play.

An MC80 Liberty. And lots more squadrons. They are a lot of fun!
Arquitens and lots of them!
The game is about capital battles, but don't be afraid to buy some fighters too. The new Wave 5 squadrons make things interesting if you limit them. One new pack from each faction and a scum and villainy can give you a lot of variety in the casual side.
And if you want to push the game a little further, you can get the Corellian Conflict pack. It says 4-6 players for a full campaign, but there's really nothing stopping you from playing with another friend. You can even replace the rebels with another imperial faction and call them traitors!

Lies! the game is all about capital shipssss. =)
I tried to grab one of everything, with two packs each of Reb/Imp Squadrons 1 and 2 (because I feel like 4 of the generic squadrons is necessary to get "the look" right). That left me with just... waaaaay too many squadron stands, but I think that's just the nature of the beast. Especially if you're supporting multiple players with your collection and you want to have Imp v Imp have as many options as possible.
But seriously, just... buy ships. They're all amazing in different ways. Strategically, picking up several of each of the Flotillas is really useful, as are some of the other small ships (Arquitens especially).
And if you're planning on supporting Imp v Imp, you should probably pick up more Star Destroyers than other casual people might plan on. SDs are awesome - even if they're "just" VSDs.
I normally grab 3 each of the small and medium combat ships, as well as the fighter packs and rogues. Large ships and flotillas (so far) i normally grab 2 each.
My name is idiewell and i have a prack addiction...![]()
step 1, look at bank balance.... step 2 decide how to get the models home with out mum/SO/GF finding out
step 3,
One of each!

I can understand your thought process; I dig having open reign to upgrades that are effective/fun, and proxy is not much fun. However, my first foray into miniatures is X-Wing; save a few cartoon-ish ships from that Rebels TV show (were they designed by a five year old?), I have them all and multiples of most, so cards are easy to access and play with.
But the addiction should stay in the micro realm, though I do have a Raider and Gozanti, if I must admit it, haha. I plan to keep Armada simpler. Yes, I know, 'the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.'
One of the greatest things about this game is that you truly can buy 'whatever looks cool to play' and play a fun, balanced game of Armada. More so than any other miniatures game I have ever played. Everything has a place, and is competitive. Pick up something here and there. Over time you will find yourself wanting to try new things, and that's when you go grab a new ship and try it out. Until that urge hits, mix it up with what you have.
If your bank account will allow it, 2 of each. That way 2 players can play Imp vs Imp or Reb vs Reb battles. Or have a nice selection for Imp vs Reb.

Totally agree with this. Indeed buy what you like and play what you like, regardless of whether in a casual or competitive setting. Even getting a severe kicking in Armada is fun if you're playing a great fleet you love.

Stop this madness.....really.....haha, but really, stop. I need no push in my addiction, I need help staying somewhat clean.
stopped buying until I can finish painting the new squads. Now that should motivate me.
Enough to be able to supply all the ships for CC on both sides.

I don't know what the extent of that would be, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't make the wife happy....um, yeah, haha.

Oh god, that is what I'm doing. I can manage 2v2 with semi-decent options, but I'm not going to be able to manage 3v3 without leaving some players with absolute nonsense fleets.
Which is fine, since I think we might get as many as 4 total players.
