MSU are they still viable???

By Green Squadron 3, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Haven't played such list in quite a while... but i wonder if they are still viable to play... my idea is this on with Madine commanding but im still pondering if a swith for Cracken is an better option which also will give me some free points to change APT's on Admonition into expanded lunchers... what do you guy's think?

Faction: Rebel Alliance

- Admonition ( 8 points)
- Lando Calrissian ( 4 points)

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 points)
- Foresight ( 8 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- H9 Turbolasers ( 8 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 88 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)

= 51 total ship cost

[ flagship ] GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- General Madine ( 30 points)
- Bright Hope ( 2 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 52 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Dual Turbolaser Turrets ( 5 points)

I like it, maybe with Cracken is more effective and with the points left trc instead dual. The objective are fine

In brief--yes, MC30-based MSUs still work, but you have to have a plan to deal with massed bombers. Without Mothma as your commander, you really need a squadron screen, even if it's just Tycho. Personally, if I were taking Cracken or Madine, I'd probably drop the third CR90 to a GR-75 + some A-wings... just kind of depends on your meta and personal preference.

Don't switch APT to ExL. ExL is a terrible return on investment compared to APT. If you're not going for the one-shot capability that APT brings but looking to increase your throughput, switch to ACM.

Drop Foresight--it's okay, but pretty much only with Mothma or on Scouts, and you need the points elsewhere.

I personally split up Lando and Admonition, but putting it all on one is viable too, especially with a heavy bid. With both on one, you can drop them both into that ISD front arc or whatever, then activate the "undefended" one first and run away with it, leaving Landmonition in the Danger Zone with the reasonable expectation that it will live.

In the last two weeks, I won a tourney with 2xmc30, 3xtrc corvettes, lifeboat list with Cracken + ended 3rd with top 3 ending on same score. So, yes, they are still viable. Rhymer + rogues can hurt.

:(Im reculant to drop the forsight title it helps against Bombers becouse it works like advanced projectors ;) and that helps a lot against Squadrons ;-) about the a wing shield I wonder if its really needed all lists with fighters tend to have at least one Intel so I will not be able to block anything... Hmmm Madine gives me additional maneuverability while Cracken gives me survivality... As for my plan for the games is to use mc30's to hit my tagets one afther another in 2 different turns while hammering my opponent capitals with the crv's as for Trc on the last corvette I don't have 3 copies of them

Craken does more good for your ships. CC90 and MC30 can be manuevered to sweet not-so-dangerous arcs easily on speed 3-4, you wont really need those extra clicks, while with Cracken, you can go to an ISD-s side and back and basically be immune to damage in red range with your corvettes while dealing a fair ammound of dmg thanks to TRC.

In my experience, AP is good against squadrons because you can redirect to the side opposite the squadrons. Foresight doesn't give you that piece, so I'm not following your logic... can you give an example of Foresight helping against squadrons? Maybe I'm missing something and need to re-evaluate my title usage...

Well i can strip shields from 2 hull zones instead of just one with 2 tokens i will be able to strip shields evenly from 3 hull zones... not just 2 leaving them naked

Sure, but against squadrons, you're almost always only redirecting damage packets of 1-2. Let's say every shot you take is 2 packets of damage*, and look at what that would look like with and without Foresight. For a bomber shooting into your front arc:

Without:

   |o| |o| |o| |o| |o| |o|
    2 2 2 2 2 2

    3     ==>     1     ==>     1     ==>     1     ==>     0     ==>     0
   3 3 3 3 1 3 1 1 1 0 0 0
    2 2 2 2 2 2
[rdy|rdy] [rdy|rdy] [exh|rdy] [exh|exh] [dsc|exh] [dsc|dsc]

With:

   |o| |o| |o| |o| |o| |o|
    2 2 2 2 2 2

    3     ==>     1     ==>     1     ==>     1     ==>     1     ==>     0
   3 3 3 3 2 2 1 1 0 0 0 0
    2 2 2 2 2 2
[rdy|rdy] [rdy|rdy] [exh|rdy] [exh|exh] [dsc|exh] [dsc|exh]

Foresight gives you one attack where the arc facing the attacking squadron has a shield when it otherwise wouldn't. Not saying that's not something I'd jump at if it were free or something, but... for an 8-point title, I'm not sure it's worth it.

I don't mean to be dismissive or tell you you're wrong or anything, btw. I'm genuinely trying to fish out your reasoning, because I don't see the benefit myself. I run MC30's a lot, and if there might be a reason for me to consider this title in my own lists, I want to understand why. :)

*for 1 damage, Foresight doesn't matter, because all you're getting from it is the ability to split the redirect left and right

Ok got your point... but Forsight gives me another boon... there will be a turn when my opponent will shoot at me at long range... with cracken he rolls one less dice and with forsight only one dice will be left to do any damage to me ;) also there is the problem what to do with those 8 points... no point in adding some squadrons ;) also i don't see any usefoul upgrades other upgrades

You need to test it vs a rhymer/fireball and a rebel bomber swarm. Then you'll know.

yes i know ;)

Ended up 3rd on the Warsaw Regionals :P list works but I need more practice won 3 games

Foresight is awesome. But it shines more on a TRC Scout MC30. When I run two MC30sForesight is always a Scout and Admo is the Torpedo. There is no escape from them.
