Check out The Librarians. Starts out with 3 made for tv movies from like the mid 2000s, The Librarian (:and the something something). The series expands on that world with a fun cast.

For reference, my only current watches are Shield, Librarians, MacGyver, Dr. Who (if it'd ever decide to come back on air.), and anything Marvel as soon as it releases.

You need some Expanse in your lives. Real physics, real drama, real fun.

- Kinda Game-of-Thronesy with multiple character arcs and lethal character development , but a little less gore-for-gore's sake and set in a world where everyone can read.

And if you haven't watched Firefly with the missus... well.

- Duh.

Aside from those two, I'd posit Foyle's War. Being a detective in 1930's England is hard enough when WW2 isn't going on. When it is, it makes for fantastic television!

- Likable characters, fun mysteries, the tension of The War. Like really likable characters.

And Miss Fisher Mysteries in the same vein, except the setting is shortly after WW1 and set in Australia. Art Deco, Australian outback, hard-boiled detectives and high fashion!

Same idea as Foyle's War, but here the war (The Great War) is over, and people are rebuilding their lives and reveling in the new fashions and freedoms of society. The characters come from many different period backgrounds but they mesh well and it's just wonderful to see how they develop and rub off on each-other. It makes the few bits of combat tense too when you really like the people being shot at!

Oh and there's murder. Plenty of that.

It's a lot of gifs, but we are pitching shows here: it would take a thousand words to describe each frame!

Oh, man, of all the British police shows my wife watches, Foyle's War might be my favorite. The later series are cool because it gets into Cold War stuff.

I had to stop watching a little bit after the war ended because, well, they hadn't made the new episodes yet.

That's when I took a look at Miss Fisher's Mysteries. I hadn't expected too much beyond the usual grain, I mean it's hard to make a bad British detective show, but I didn't expect the characters to be so... fun! Some shows are made for tension, some shows are made for drama, some shows are made to make you smile.

And some shows have tension and drama and pull them together to make you smile. It's one of those shows.

Anyhoo. I mean I love Game of Thrones and Westworld and Man in the High Castle for the heavy drama and philosophy, but at the end of the day they are tragedies. Like in the old Greek plays, the characters exist to suffer and generate drama, and every good thing that happens to them is carefully balanced and weighed alongside their tortures.

Sometimes, instead, I like to watch someone with a little bit of heroism - someone who seeks out danger and rights wrongs not because it will keep them alive or profit them in the end, but because righting wrongs is what they like to do and the end of the day they enjoy it.

Like really enjoy it. Not grimly, sourly, accept that good-has-been-done-here-but-look-at-the-cost. Like "We put that crazed gunman in a box and jeeze-was-it-hard, so who feels like a round of cigars? "

Limitless was a Great show, too bad it didn't get a second season.

Fall of Eagles is a classic. The acting in it varies from passable to very good, but the sets, music, costuming and narration are all spot on. It might not be all that interesting if you're not interested in turn-of-the-century politics and history, though. On the other hand, Patrick Stewart as Vladimir Lenin is worth the price of admission alone, imo. Whole series is on Youtube if you want to see aristocrats in fancy clothing struggle to hold on to their power in an increasingly proletarian world.

Wow....lots of great shows to watch! First, I'll start with what I have seen already:

• Chuck was one of our favorite shows and I'm sad it's done.
• Clone Wars - watched them all with my son. Awesome. We now watch Rebels.
• Dr Who I also watch with my son.
• We both watched Lost, but thought it lost it by the end.
• The Expanse - watched it after my surgery, and it is on the first page. It was OK.
• Firefly - loved it

I started Black Mirror and I'm thinking she won't like it. I'll watch it, though. Still on the first one.

The Netlfix show about the Italian family.....I'm not sure if I want to watch it. Almost looks like too much backstabbing and all that.

What looks great!

• Outlander! I forgot about this one. I still keep thinking of the PvP comic that summed it up as some nurse gets sent back in time and has to have lots of sex to get back to her timeline. I know lots of ladies love this and maybe I'll get lucky because of it?
• Foyle's War sounds good, too.
• The new X-man show. The one that starts soon. That one. Legion! That's it.
• Maybe Deadwood? I never did see the last season. I'll have to dig that one up.
• I loved The Wire and never did finish it. Maybe that one.
• The OA might work.

Ripper Street

Maigret, it stars Rowan Atkinson ( and no it's not silly) as Inspector Maigret in Paris in the 1950s, though only 2 episodes exist right now and with 90 minutes per episode it's a little bit longer than most shows.

I should also look at the Amazon Prime tv shows....

Did you ever watch Falling Skies? It was on TNT. It was about an alien invasion happening today and how people were resisting it. It's not on Netflix but I think Amazon has it. It was a Great show, lots of great characters, some of whom you started off really hating but by the end you got to know them and really came to love them.

If you hadn't seen it, I honestly can't recommend it enough.

The funny thing about that show, was it was my wife who found it and started watching it, then got me sucked into it. It's one of those short seasons shows, only 13 episodes per season.

That's exactly what I would have said, but it was her co-worker that recommended it. Because of the first one, which is odd, I got her to watch the third one first, 2nd/2nd, then the first... Then knowing they are meant to be commentaries on or "examination of modern society" the first episode fits in better.

If you like comedy, watch Parks and Recreatio n. The first 6 episodes are bad but everything since has been gold, wife and I are halfway through season 5 right now.

We tried Black Sails, but it was just kind of silly. We didn't like it.

We wanted to like 24 and got all hyped about it when it first started. We watched the first episode and hated it. HATED IT.

Seen all the X-files the first time through.

Watched a season of Fringe and lost interest.

I love the IT crowd, but she doesn't.

I have seen The Expanse already!

SPARTACUS!!!!!!

BUT, you have to give it 3 episodes. The first episode looks like a mash up between 300 and a soft core pawno.

By 3rd / 4th episode it finds its legs, the story kicks in and you can't go back. After Firefly it is easily my favourite show.

Why? You ask. Spartacus is vulnerable. He is fallible. Ragnar in Vikings can do no wrong .. everything works out for him. In S1 of Sparty it's a completely different story. Unfortunately, Andy Whitfield (Sparty) passed away after S1. They change the Sparty and this transition was challenging for some .. again. 3rd / 4th ep in to S2 and you're hooked again.

Great show! Seriously!

I started The OA with the Mrs last night and we are hooked. It's a very odd show, but pulls you in. That's a good one. It won't last that long, though, as it's just a few episodes.
