Anybody gave some thought about the tray size?

By SirWillibald, in Runewars Miniatures Game

While waiting for the release, junior and me are busy making some terrain in advance. Great fun!

What do you think about the actual measurements of a single tray based on the pictures or even first hand experience? Would be useful to know, since we also intend to build a nice bridge, but I'm unsure how wide it has to be...

The game comes with its own terrain and rules on how to place it. Read last weeks article about objectives and deployments.

I think @TallTonyB could maybe answer that. *Summon*

There will be some guidelines in the rules for using your own terrain, and in anything that's not an FFG sanctioned tourney you should be just fine using your own. Unfortunately I don't know the exact size of the trays. I could find out at adepticon, but that's still a ways away.

If you have a leoric figure from descent 2nd ed lying around, this could give you a really rough estimate. Unfortunately I'm at school at the moment and don't know the exact size of leoric's base.

and once again I'm stuck at school, lol. When I get home I'll measure Leoric. I would say the tray is more than three Leoric bases wide, but less than four. I would guess that most people will run units about 2-3 trays across. more is possible though, so plan accordingly.

The bases of the models look to be similar to Imperial Assault which is approximately 25mm, sooo...the trays are probably going to be are 60mm I'd say though they could easily be 70 or 80mm if my estimation of the base size is off...

my eye says 3 inches

One thing to bear in mind is that the Rune Golem is on a 'siege tray' which is bigger than the infantry bases. The hero tray has a larger facing as well.

I think the only difference is the base cut out in the trays not the actual size because the trays are still suppose to be able to connect for example if you were taking the front line golem upgrade or whatever with infantry...At least that was how I understood it.

You're right, they were referring to the bases as opposed to the trays in the GenCon video.

Edit:

However I hope we see massive bases introduced in the future, 2x1 for example to get some dragons out. It would be disappointing if they ended up the same size as the Rune Golem, a size I think would make more sense for the Ettins, Trolls etc.

Thanks guys for all your tips! Took a look at my own Leoric and the photo above, I would estimate the trays to be about 6x6 cm. Since we're planning to build a bridge shown at HirstArts.com that's perfect, since it has a 3inch opening... Should be enough to comfortably move one tray over it (yes, I know, units can be two or more trays wide, but I'm sure we can house-rule that).

I love hirst art stuff I just wish I had the time to make them and that my 50lb bucket of dental stone hadn't been stolen off my porch (albeit that was pretty impressive)
