Kanan pilot ability vs TLT

By Samurai33, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Quick q on the use of Kanans pilot ability ( When an enemy ship at Range 1-2 is attacking, you may spend a focus token. If you do, the attacker rolls 1 less attack die ) vs TLT attacks ( Perform this attack twice (even against a ship outside your firing arc). Each time this attack hits, the defender suffers 1 damage. ) .

Does invoking Kanans ability using one focus mean that both times the TLT rolls it uses only two dice (as both rolls from the TLT counts as one attack as specified in the FAQ) or do I need to use two focus, one for each TLT roll?

1 focus for each TLT shot.

(emphasis mine)

Both rolls from the TLT do not count as one attack. Perform This Attack Twice (PTAT) weapons do in fact perform two attacks. It's just that certain attack-related timing triggers only happen once for the set. Those are: "Declare Target" (Step 1 in the "Timing Chart for Performing an Attack" on p7 of FAQ 4.2.3), and "After Attacking/Defending" (Steps 8 and 9).

Kanan's ability resolves in 2ii, so his opportunity comes around twice in a PTAT attack.
