Enter Striden

By Sligui, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello!

I'm trying to brew a couple lists capitalizing on the supporting role of the new Major Stridan. I really want to include the Emperor since I FINALLY got my hands on his card and haven't had the opportunity to use him yet. I really like having access to the coordinate action, more red dice, and a better dial over the older shuttle...

Unfortunately, Stridan with Palp is pricey, and not so surprisingly, I'm having a hard time choosing a list to go with him.

So far I have these three options:

Major Stridan (42)

- Fire-Control System

- Emperor Palpatine

Darth Vader (34)

- Tie/x1

- Adaptability

- Engine Upgrade

- Advanced Targeting Computer

"Duchess"

- Veteran Instincts

- Adaptive Ailerons

With this list, I'm concerned about PWT/turrets overall

OR

Major Stridan (40)

- Emperor Palpatine

The Inquisitor (28)

- Adaptability

- Tie/v1

- Autothrusters

Countess Ryad (32)

- Tie/x7

OR

Major Striden (44)

- Emperor Palpatine

- Fire-Control System

- Kylo Ren's Shuttle

Delta Squadron Pilot (28)

- Tie/x7

Delta Squadron Pilot (28)

- Tie/x7

Thanks for your time, and would love to hear your comments/critiques

I think that you are missing the point with Striden. The only thing that his ability is doing for you is allowing coordinate to work from range 1-3 instead of just 1-2. If you are going to use Striden you should be looking at using upgrades that effect friendlies. Palpatine doesn't care about range, so he's as good on any other ship as he is on Striden.

Here's the current list of upgrades that work with Striden's ability:

Systems Officer - Normally limited to range 1.

Fleet Officer - Normally limited to range 1-2

Operations Specialist - Normally limited to range 1-2

Hux - Normally limited to range 1-2

Inspiring Recruit - Normally limited to range 1-2

Targetting Synchronizer - Normally limited to range 1-2

Hyperwave Scanner - Normally limited to range 1-2 (not 100% sure this one works due to wording)

Of those, I think that Systems Officer is the upgrade that really gets the most from Striden. Unlike the some of the other crew, Systems Officer doesn't require an action, which leaves your action free for coordinate or one of the other crew that require an action. On top of that it's cheap at 2 points, and is normally limited to range 1.

I'm also of the opinion that Advanced Sensors is the System slot that Striden probably wants (in most cases) as it allows him to get actions even when bumping or executing a red maneuver. If he's got one of the crew that requires an action this will help make sure that they can get plenty of use.

I'm not sure that this will be any good but I think it could be fun to play and gets a couple of pilots on the table that don't see a ton of play. Jax and Strom are going to right in the mix and Striden helping out with the action economy. Intel Agent on Striden will help allow Jax and Strom to setup blocks. Knowing where a ship that activates between Striden and Jax is moving will give Jax the opportunity to boost or barrel-roll into a blocking position using Striden's coordinate action or at least move into a position that will prevent them from taking focus or evade actions.

Major Stridan (32)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Systems Officer (2)

Zertik Strom (26)
Juke (2)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x1 (0)

Carnor Jax (26)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Stealth Device (3)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

Total: 100

I agree. And I think Systems Officer is better on Stridan than even Targeting Synchroniser, which the vessel ships with. It means the Upsilon doesn't need to spend an action on taking a target lock itself but is still handing them out to the likes of Omega Ace. It's also cheaper.

I also agree that Stridan is useless as a Palp mobile and you may as well take Starkiller pilot and save points or take a Lambda to save even more.

My current 2 Stridan lists are as follows;

Stridan (32)

Fire Control System (2) - (Although I totally see the argument for advanced sensors)

General Hux (5)

Systems Officer (2)

Pattern Analyser (2)

Omega Leader (21)

Juke (2)

Comm Relay (3)

2x Epsilon Squadron Pilot (30)

- Total --- 99

A potential alternative that uses Kylo instead of Hux would be...

Major Stridan (32)

- Fire Control System (2)

- Kylo Ren (3)

- Systems Officer (2)

- Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)

Omega Ace (20)

- Swarm Leader (3)

Epsilon Pilot (18)

- Comm Relay (3)

Epsilon Pilot (18)

- Comm Relay (3)

-Total--- 100

Changes the fight from a war of outlasting the opponent with the first list to trying to hit them hard early with the second.
