How are we going to store and transport this beast? It is too oddly sized for my trusty Stanley black and yellow trays to accommodate. Has anyone figured out a way to detach and magnetize the wings?
Upsilon Shuttle Storage?
Detach those beautiful wings? Are you nuts!?
As always the answer is (Feldherr) Foam or micro hangars, either way, german engineering ;-)
I'm planning on doing much as I have for all my others, carving a hole out of a block of foam and fitting it inside. Possibly in this case, with a block of foam between the wings to stop them snapping.
I might try to magnetise it. It should come apart reasonably easily, looking at it.

My wallet refuses to go down that path and I fully support it. Foam is a trap for the serious collector. You end up spending as much in foam as you do in minis (hundreds of dollars).
I admit my concerns with this ship. I am not sure how I am going to store it. Maybe in my epic sized Plano tray? To be honest, I am not sure I want it.
It's really not that big once the wings are folded up. It's about the same profile as a Punisher, just a LOT taller.

+1 - it may join the Raider as the only [other] ship I decide not to bother with...
I mean, if you're able to store the Ghost, you'll be able to store this fine.

My space is starting to get pretty cramped.....

Awww....the Raider is a lot of fun! It's great playing Epic with it.
I'll admit that part of my reason for not bothering with the Hounds Tooth is storage. Well....that and I don't really care about large based ships so much.
The depth of the ship is the issue from the tip of the guns to the engines is 2.5". While the width is exactly 2". This poses a problem for my storage solution which is 1 and 3/4" in depth.

I could store either one just fine. But fitting both? I think the Upsilon is just going to be displayed on the shelf with my Epic ships.

I almost got one when they were close to 1/2 price on AmazonUK just before xmas, but it just doesn't appeal like the CR-90, Goz or Transport [or the C-Roc] - just seems like they were trying to produce an ISD-lookalike that doesn't - I'd have preferred something shaped liked the Arquitens or Marauder...
...also not too keen on that large engine bell - I've had a scratchbuild underway to use a Deci as part of an alternative for 8mths now that has a smaller main and two larger [comparatively] auxillary ones, but I've kept putting off the stage that could totally wreck it all, as it's mould process I've never used before
I'll wait and see peoples practical experience with storing the shuttle and decide then...but I hardly ever use my Imp ships anyway, as my regular opponent likes to fly them...and I hate the idea of Imp vs Imp games
The Hounds Tooth is easy - just crack the glue joint on the rear fuselage [I preferred that to the wing joint] - the two pieces just plug back together, and I can get two fuselages in a large Stanley tub and the two wings along with dials, other ships etc in another...

Yeah...I just don't really care to try for the Hounds Tooth. I mean, I get it's neat, but it's just another large based ship that I don't really like to fly. Oh, and it costs money. Maybe if I was flush with hobby cash...
It's kind of my same situation with the Epsilon. I just don't know if I want to spend the money on another large based ship I probably won't ever fly.

You refuse to use storage which is basically free (micro hangars). I thought Microhangars were undeniable a cheaper method than expansive plano boxes ...
Besides your math is off on the feldherr stuff too. $10 != $100 ;-)

Why do you say I refuse to use free micro hangars? I do use them. I put all my large based ships in them and have a Plano 3700 tray for them all. The only problem is that it's full at the moment. I can't fit another large based ship in there. I'm turn between maybe taking them all out of the micro hangars or finding a new way to store them all.
As for the price of the stuff, I am not sure about the cost ratio. Maybe it's just that I've already spent so much that I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to carry all my stuff. Just for looking at their prices I would probably need about $300 worth of stuff to get all the foam trays and enough bags to carry all my stuff to the game store on game night. Yes, I need to carry all my stuff every week.
You just said you refuse to go the path of micro hangars
because of your wallets and then rambled about foam, which was mentioned as well as option
I was mainly just nitpicky, though I considered the option that you called the micro hangars expensive too .
Besides yeah, once you have a $2000 collection, you could indeed buy a whole wave or buy for the whole collection some feldherr foam, 10%-20% of your collections worth adds still up.
(battle foam btw nearly twice as expensive when you buy it piece by piece, which my wallet would refuse as well ;-))
too expensive > expensive too
I have some foam I plan to take my Dremmel to today to see if I can carve a space for my Wave X stuff. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Ahh....yes, I did just ignore the part about Micro Hangers to my own detriment. My apologies. I was referring to foam. I have gone down Sabol foam for other game systems and highly regretted it.
I agree that Battle Foam is worse.

Not sure if a stanley knife would not work better
Plug Foam is btw rather easy to use too.
Hoping the Up-yours Shuttle will lay flat in a 3700 Plano. Or even better that I can fold it up and store it like the Lambda.
well, problem with microhangars is SirWillie wouldnt be able to make a custom fit box for it for awhile. Far as i know they still dont even have wave5 armada stuff, and we got that over a month ago in America.
Probably will be how i transport mine once he makes a box for it. Its not the size that bugs me, its the unsupported and HUGE wings getting squished or bent.
Just wait until Krennic's shuttle comes along...

Wave X is the first wave that I have not purchased and bought multiples of. My wife is sending me to the doctor for a check up.
And yes I do use Battle Foam. You can blame my wonderful wife for that.

Dear God I hope we don't get Krennic's shuttle.

I would hope that the Lambda gets the coordination ability, or at least a boost to the range of Col Jendon's ability.
