I Present to You: The Unshootable bomber

By So Crates, in X-Wing

While poking around the new cards, I came across this amazing combination:

Ahsoka Tano (17)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Sabine Wren (2)
Scavenger Crane (2)
Cluster Mines (4)
Captured TIE (1)
Sabine's Masterpiece (1)

Total: 28

That's a PS 9 tie fighter that drops a cluster mine (with Sabine extra damage). Then collects another cluster mine with scavenger crane if the targeted ship dies. And maybe does it again if you don't roll a blank.

Oh yea, the kicker is you do not get to shoot this horrible cluster mining tie fighter unless you are PS 9 or higher!

But 28 points....

Captured TIE as a Mod instead of Title and Scavenger Crane as poorly thematic are bad and FFG should feel bad.

Yea yea details.

I didn't even mention handing out free action to your squad mate from Ahsoka's pilot ability...

Kinda nice but besides its own obvious weakness to bombs...

Ever seen a Decimator run over a TIE fighter? Would you like to?

More funny though, is a Quadjumper with the spacetug array could force Ahsoka to roll over her own prox mine. If people get too trolly with Ahsoka, I'm totally doing this.

Edit: While a spacetug array can't force it backwards onto the mine, of course (tractors don't work that direction), it can be used on Ahsoka as its not an attack.

I like it! Sounds like fun and sounds balanced as I keep going back and forth in my mind between "Wow, that would be really good" and "Wow, when that blows up in one turn I would be out 28 points"! :D

Mines have been around for ages and have never truly been effective without better bomb dropping options offered by SLAM or Pilot Abilites.

With neither, this ship doesn't look particularly dangerous to me.

Plus, PS 9 is actually a disadvantage for mine dropping some of the time!

Yeah, at PS9, you want a proton bomb instead of clusters.

I can still:

Bomb it

BMST it

Feedback it

Run into it with the @$$hole Decimator pilot

Tractor it onto a rock (Ketzu/quadjumper)

To be fair though, there are lists out there that don't have an answer to such a thing, like tlt y's or trip defenders. Not sure how 28pts of a bomb and free-action dispenser would help out, but could be fun.

The defenders will love to play 100 vs 72 points-plus-one-cluster-mine until your 72 points are dead and they can kill Ahsoka in one turn.

Looks like fun! Real quick, short lived, opponent with LRS homing missile making her into space debris fun! Keep up the cool ideas!

...said the guy that loves a generic phantom with LWF and Intel Agent, haha!

Or just shoot it with Quickdraw, Dengar, VI Maarek, etc.

The Decimator was "Inspecting" the TIE fighter to determine the cause of the pilot's deficiency the pilot was having for not shooting rebel scum.

Basic imperial protocol of course...

I'm building a list with a similar TIE and Bodhi Rock.

I remember a certain someone barely missing the Worlds cut on two days 2014 with 4 proxy bombers...

And mines are played because of Sabine, nothing else. SLAM is very strong, but mines can be landed easily without it.

Tried it and its not as good as you would think PS9 does not make a good bomber

"Rebels" is ****. I don't know why this game features a stupid 7yo kids show, especially when it ***** SW fluff all around.
Crew in a tiny TIE/ln cockpit? Without life support suit? And where is Sabine throwing bombs from in that thing ?!
Both the episode and the game mechanic added for this "stolen TIE" are a nonsense.
As a player liking cinematic play (I try to build thematic squads that have some coherence in the universe, hence why play a SW game?), I know I would feel sorry to see that thing on my gaming table.

Agree to disagree on Rebels.

Technically the fighter was the bomb, but let's not nit picks here.

Also you don't really need life support. I mean, the cabin is air-tight and can be pressurized, it's not just open to space. All life support does is keep your air fresh and your cockpit warm/cool. If you don't intend to sleep in the thing you should be fine for a mission or so.

The Rebel spec-ops on the card probably is SEALy enough to bring his own air when his mission is to steal a space fighter.

Also, it's just a TIE. It's literally trying to beat the Empire at it's own game; which at a limit of four Rebel TIEs if you're going for max you are unable to do. The Empire built those ships, the Empire can unbuild them just as easily.

Dunno how they manage to throw the bombs, but I once let my brother have a potshot at me in a game with his weapons disabled because he described rolling the window down and trying a hand blaster. I'd let it slide just for the mental image of a Rebel spec-ops in space, hatch up, tossing bombs and Connor nets out the back A-Team style.

SHoot it with a PS9 pilot, too, don't forget.

Fenn rocks up to r1 of it, blows it up in one shot, game over.

LOL. Dude .

Your Theory sounds nice ,but practically it wont be that efficient.

What let u think 3 hull lasts longer than 3 hull ?

Ever flown a TIE SWARM dude ?

I would assume he'd rely on the Captured TIE title for that. Against anything <PS9 this TIE is safe. Well unless its Bombs, but thats probably not what you thought of with your TIE swarm-comment. PS9 and higher has become more rare with TIE Defenders as gatekeepers, as Rexler is pretty unpopular with the less experienced (read: not Hobojesus or Biophysical) Defender players. The ones you do see regularily are Rau in Parattanni, who dies to one lucky (actually average, but thats already lucky for me) Cluser Mine, and Dengar, who is the real killer for this build. So if you don't meet Dengaroo or opposing Bombers this build will work, well even.

Here, we're talking about a TIE/ln throwing bombs/mines.

For the average person (not in an intense activity, like combat flying), you need 8L/min of fresh air per person. This can grow up to 70L/min/person in an intense activity setting.
Plus, you have to eject the CO2 you blow back, and this demands even more space in the cockpit if it's just "pressurized".
Better your mission be short.

From where? Just show me the pod for lauching the mines, and where you store it on the TIE/ln.
