So I usually (read 90% of the time) play Empire and occasionally play Scum(read 9.9% of the time), but I have every Rebel ship(except Heroes of the Resistance) and multiples of the small based ships(except the hwk290) that I hardly ever use. I haven't even put my new Uwing on its base yet. So all that being said, how should I get into playing my Rebels. And I'm not super interested in being told how great the latest net list is, unless it is accompanied by the strategies and tactics that go along with it. I guess my real question is, how do Rebels fly(I rarely fly against them either, as Scum is very popular in my area) what type of playstlye works best with them, what tactics work well,(bumping, ion or stress control, slow roll, faster approach, etc) and the like. What advice do you have for a very experienced xwinger, but very inexperienced Rebel?
Help me play with all my toys!
Just play X-Wing with Rebel ships, they're basically the same as Scum/Imperial ships.
If you want to do something that's like 'the archetypal Rebel' then pick up Miranda (regen, turret, crew).
Regen, bombs and turrets...that's pretty much what Rebels have going for it. Miranda is well-loved because she has all three. Their aces can't match Imperials, their control can't match Scum...except maybe with bombs, which can be a different kind of control. The one thing I know how to fly well, Rey, is the one thing you don't own, so I can't really give you good specifics.
A great place to start is Miranda/Corran. The strategy with them is to lure the opponent after Miranda, preferably through the rocks, with Corran trailing behind. When they take the bait, Miranda cripples them with bombs and Corran zooms in to mop up, then they both zoom away. I think if you want to try a truly unique Rebel archetypal list, Miranda/Corran would be the way to go. Or, really...just flying Miranda with anyone is uniquely Rebel.
Edited by gennataosRebels tend to have synergy that helps them all out. So, Pilots or Crew that do things to help other squad mates. It's a matter of finding the right combos of different guys to do what you are trying to do. Rebels are also good with big ships as they have a number of them.
If you really wanted to have fun with your Rebels, then I'd say try to get a fun 200 pts vs 200 pts with a friend. Pick half your list as generics. Use as many small ships as you can. Have your opponent do the same. Blast away at each other!
Fly Rey plus someone, Miranda plus someone, etc. Ghost is also fun, as is Dash.
At the moment rebels seem to be all about the crew options,
Hera on Ghost,
Sabine on k wing
Finn/Kanan on Rey
I guess Jyn on kanan Ghost is good, Rey is a great 2 point crew.
Unless you're Hyper competitive, just build a list and have fun. Since you're an experienced player you familiar with card synergies. The next thing is to pick some pilots. Throw a 100 points together and have fun.
As mentioned above, Rebel ships fly similar to Scum. Just remember you're looking at tactics from the other side of the table and you should have an advantage with your intimate knowledge of the Imperial ships. Think what did and didn't work against your Empire squads and work from there.
My situation is the opposite of yours. Rebels, Scum then Empire. Wednesdays and Thursdays are casual games and I will literally throw an ad Hoc squad together. Something I haven't tried before. Maybe I win and maybe not but I have fun and use stuff that has not seen the outside of my case since it was purchased and I get a little better. Not a bad night of gaming.
I don't think I have ever played a list twice other than my Iggy-Boba build. I have tried to use everything at least once.
Actually, come to think of it, outside of HotAC, I have never used a shuttle. I better get on that.

Big based ships are the bane of my existence! They become rock magnets! I'm working on it though.

You basically want to look at some type of control, be it blocking or stress or bombing. Biggs also counts as control. It's how they get damage through token stacks and also reduce opponent's offense mods means weak rebel agility ships can last longer. They are the best stressers with stressbot, and best bombers with Sabine. Awings are great little blockers.
Dont fly rebels like imperial aces. They dont have agility, greens, and most dont have evade, so no turtling up. Its either dodge the arc or die.
Control and hit hard.
Do you remember playing against a Rebel list that was a challenge?
Try that one.

Rebels ships don't Evade!! (much)
The Miranda/Corran combo, although great is best when flown by a very practiced hand. In short, it takes some practice to get it to work as imagined.
I'd suggest flying something with a combination of turrets, crew slots and Astromechs to get a good sense of what Rebels are capable of. Specifically a Y, an ARC and a Freighter (any of them).
They're not going to win you tournaments, but you'll get a good feeling for the Rebels. Then you can tweak things and swap in/out other ships that have their own personalities.
I'm guessing you'll like the A-Wings and the E since they're a bit more zippy like the TIEs.
Play the missions that come with the bigger ships if your playing for fun, You will run through everything. Use the HOTC AI if you don't have a buddy to play against.
Edited by CubanboyThank you all for the advice.
I know they aren't super popular, but if you like old school A-wings, you can run Miranda with Sabine, conners, thermals, EM, Aslam and add both PS9 Jake and PS9 Tycho with PtL/ATs ![]()
