Including a tie striker into a heavy hitting list - need help

By jimmyfield, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all , what do you think of this list - what would you change . I have all the imperial ships bar a punisher so have access to most upgrade cards .

Feel like a defender could work well in his list ? Wanted to keep it pilot skill 8 minimum .

New list (90)

"Duchess" (28) - TIE Striker
Outmaneuver (3), Adaptive Ailerons (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

The Inquisitor (30) - TIE Adv. Prototype
Juke (2), TIE/v1 (1), Autothrusters (2)

Darth Vader (32) - TIE Advanced
Juke (2), TIE/x1 (0), Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

advice needed , can't find a list I'm happy with .

Maybe something like this?

"Duchess" (23)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Colonel Vessery (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Darth Vader (29)
Lone Wolf (2)
Proton Rockets (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)

Total: 100

I'll try that . Thank you .

(99 pts) 3x Delta squadron pilot, Tie/D, ion cannon, with the option to throw twin ion engine mk. 2 on one of them to help alleviate stress and make it 100 points. destroys pretty much everything i face. its simple but packs a nice punch and lets you control the board. i already know people are gunna laugh at this build but its done better than everything else ive tried by far. just gotta know how to fly defenders effectively.

People grossly underestimate how powerful sabacc can be. You can beat anything any day with QD/Inq/Sabacc .

While a solid list, the poster was asking for help with a list including a tie striker.

Indeed.

If you want to keep PS8 minimum, then you have two choices - Duchess or Veteran Instincts Pure Sabacc.

The former doubles down on pilot skill - I probably wouldn't take Duchess with Outmaneuver because it's (a) expensive and (b) doesn't actually help her roll red dice. It's great when facing an opponent with relatively few super-modified green dice (Poe Dameron or Norra Wexley spring to mind) but it still falls flat on its face against Reinforce or Evade.

Duchess is a great, low-cost way to get a PS10 ace with a pseudo-push-the-limit-and-advanced-sensors-boost - for the price of a middling X-wing, you've got a ship which can dance nearly as well as Soontir Fel, Vader or Kylo Ren, and provide a credible threat to those ships in a one-on-one duel. What she can't do - unlike Fel and Ren - is dodge incoming fire from turrets. No autothrusters, and no focus-evade, and (for that matter) no bonus green die at range 3 most of the time, means that if someone does get a shot on her, she's in trouble.

Pure Sabbac, on the other hand, is a bit of a Kamikaze. Duchess you want to keep out of the fight until later on - when there's less ships on the board and she can pick one opponent to duel with. Sabbac wants to engage early on and get as many 4-dice attacks off before he inevitably gets killed, or at least damaged to the point his ability switches off. The problem is that he's good value for firepower but easy to kill, making him an obvious first target - and whilst PS8 is nice, it's not at all unusual to see him getting whomped before he shoots anyway at PS9-10. The best way to make him work is to fly him alongside a bigger threat - Vader and/or The Inquisitor can pack Cruise Missiles or Harpoon Missiles without breaking the bank, which draws heat off Sabbac and hence means more high-dice shots from him.

Crack Shot is not a bad call for him (on the theory he may only get 1-2 shots so you might as well make them hurt more), but that does leave him at a (comparatively) low PS.

Why Juke? And Engine Upgrade? I don't see how those two synergize.

And why Wired, Pattern Analyzer and accuracy corrector?

I tinkered with it and came up with this:

"Pure Sabacc" (22)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Darth Vader (29)
Juke (2)
Harpoon Missiles (4)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x1 (0)

"Quickdraw" (29)
Lone Wolf (2)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)

Total: 100

I am a big fan of the following:

Sabacc - Expertise, Title and LWF - 28

QD - Marksmanship, FCS, Advanced Optics, Title and LWF - 38

BD - VI, FCS, Advanced Optics, Title and LWF - 34

No space left for a bid but it hits hard and can be defensive at times. It also gives your opponent some target priority issues.

I flew the list I posted above twice today and I'm pretty happy with it.

I prefer my 34 points to yours. However the flavor is nice either way. If you could save one point somewhere and put Expertise in the EPT slot to free up your action for a BR to set up shots it would be better but it depends on how you fly and what you fly against.

I think I've never tried Marksmanship before. Interesting idea. Thanks!
