Daughter and Apprentice

By Stefan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Does this work? Or am I putting too much stock in Rey?

Corran Horn (35)
Push the Limit (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
R7 Astromech (2)

Rey (45)
Expertise (4)
Finn (5)
Kanan Jarrus (3)
Millennium Falcon (TFA) (1)

Total: 100

i'd use the vi r2-d2 fire control corran, instead. for ps kills and having regen in the list.

this Rey hits hard, can be focus fired down, though.

Yeah, I tried variations of this list three times now, and everytime, Rey dies within three rounds. :(

I've found any single wingman for Rey doesn't work unless your opponent foolishly goes after the wingman. That's what led me to my Rey & mini-swarm list. The action denial has worked wonders for me to keep Rey on the mat. There might be value in a Rey/Norra combo, but I've only played it once.

I honestly feel Rey is often played overly aggressively a lot of the time which is why she gets focused down so easily. I found the exact same thing when I first started using her; trying to keep my enemy in arc was causing me to end up in arc (because she can't manoeuvre like a small Ace) and get worn down quickly... this is why I have 3PO on her instead of Finn, and a TLT Jan makes up for Finn's extra dice. A TLT Jan can't do as much instant damage as Corran but buffs Rey in a way that getting my enemy in arc isn't as vital to rolling a lot of dice.

My best win with Rey came from often not trying to get my enemy in arc, which is what my opponent was expecting me to do so I often avoided getting in his arcs.

The build specifically is

Rey (45)

- Expertise (4)

- C-3PO (3)

- Kanan Jarrus (3)

- Millennium Falcon (1) (Sloop)

Jan Ors (25)

- Predator (3)

- TLT (6)

- Nien Nunb (1)

- Engine Upgrade (4)

- Total --- 95

Can't decide what to do with the final points. Engine Upgrade for Rey seems the obvious choice, but I also liked the idea of cluster missiles for a 7 die opening barrage (with Jan) with expertise and Rey's re-rolls. Another choice was Mouldy Crow on Jan, effectively giving her cheaper Expertise if she can bank 'em in the early rounds.

That's why I switched to the mini-swarm, to block the living daylights out of the opponent to make multiple arcs on Rey a chore.

I like the idea with the mini-swarm, especially incorporating that **** TIE.
