I'm going to GenCon for the first time largely because I want to be on the ground floor of L5Rs new incarnation. FFG, please start feeding us. The community has been wildly well behaved and (generally) patient. We would all truly appreciate some updates, design notes, art, ANYTHING...
GenCon registration has begun... PLEASE throw us a bone!
Good luck. The only thing I have found ffg lacking in is preview delivery and regular updates.
Event listings for GenCon go up in May. There's plenty of time for information yet. FFG have their timetable and won't be rushed on it.
From what I've seen with some of FFG's other games, it seems that FFG tends to hold off on their announcements until closer to the release date than other companies tend to do.
However, once they do start announcing, there'll probably be a veritable deluge of information.
My numbers crunch (using Star Wars Destiny as a guide) has the first real announcement article (with actually card images) marked at mid-April with the preview articles starting in mid-May.
i sorta wish FFG admins were a bit more present on the forums, so they could sticky one of these "FFG GIVE US PREVIEWS PLS" threads

The big reason I want to attend is to be there at launch as well.
I'm going for launch but don't expect any previews till may

Or just delete them.
I was fully intending on attending my first Gencon, and first visit to the USA but the lack of information is making me hesitant. It ain't cheap to get there from Ireland, and if I knew 100% that there would be a launch I'd be there for sure. But that small doubt in the back of my mind is making me not book the journey.
I wish FFG would announce that the launch for sure will happen instead of just the initial intention. It was a long time ago that it was mentioned and who knows what's going on behind the scenes.

I thought they had advertisement signs for L5R last gencon stating the release for this gencon.

They did indeed.
I want to go, but the wife and I bought a house and have a baby on the way. There's no way I'd leave them for a few days, even for the L5R launch at the 50th anniversary GenCon.
But is was a tough call.
They can't announce the launch will happen 'for sure' - there are too many variables that might impact that. They certainly intend to release the game at GenCon and as of right now (or last week, when I emailed asking about it), they're very much still on target for that, but you never know what delays may still occur.
This helps explain why they're not over-hyping things in the build-up to GenCon, and are instead taking a measured, patient approach.
You can hold off until they open housing registration (12th of Feb, noon New York time - 5pm in Ireland, I believe). I doubt you'll have a problem registering for GenCon itself. Registering for the event itself... now that's likely to be hectic. 2 years ago, they had to open extra spots for AGoT 2nd ed's release event, because the first wave was bought in a matter of hours.

It is standard FFG. They don't start pushing out of a ton of previews till much closer to release.
I'm going to GenCon this year also for the release of L5R and because I've always wanted to attend.
I'm lucky enough that this will coincide with some friends going to NY, so I will do both GenCon and NY after that.
It's a long trip from Barcelona but I'm very excited.
I'd love to chat and meet people who are also attending to se if we can see each other at GenCon. I hope to meet lots of new people!
I'm sure there will be plenty of time for socializing, and I've heard rumours the Scorpion Clan Dinner will be going on again this year.

I'm sure its too early to start actually planning it, but safe to say there will be a Dinner for Villains?
Never too early, Jude. We drew over thirty people last year when there was zero L5R presence (apart from a few of us playing Modern around the convention hall), so it's definitely on again this year.
You can count me in for everything! Since I'm going alone from Barcelona I want to participate in every social event I can.
I'm super excited about meeting new people with whom I share this hobby.
Sounds interesting. I'll likely attend assuming no schedule conflicts.

Same here, though a much shorter trip on my part. I've never been able to commit to L5R the way I've wanted to and I've promised myself the opportunity to do that now.
