Ramming/completing movement question

By Uncle_Joe, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Just a quick clarification...if a ship's ram destroys the blocking ship, does the original ship complete it's move?

Example:

MC80 is blocked by a Flotilla with 1hp left. The move position overlaps the Flotilla so it takes 1 point of hull damage. This then destroys the Flotilla. Does the MC80 then complete it's move as normal or is it still stuck back in the position it occupied after being 'forced back' by the ram?

Thanks!

No, it's still forced back by the overlap.

If a ship executes a maneuver and its final position would overlap another ship, it cannot finish its maneuver normally. Instead, temporarily reduce its speed by one (without changing the speed dial) and move the ship at the new speed. This process continues until the ship can finish its maneuver, even if that maneuver is to remain in place at speed “0.”

Then deal one facedown damage card to the ship that moved and the closest ship that it overlapped.

So, you complete the maneuver first, including the slowing effect. The damage cards are dealt after the maneuver has been completed.

Rules quote

Doing things in order, basically you:

Place Maneuver Tool.
Pick up Moving Ship.
Attempt to Place Moving Ship at End.
When you cannot Place at End, move ship back and attempt to place at Next step back until able to Place.
Once Ship is Placed, then deal Damage Cards to Ships
THEN the Ship is destroyed, if that damage equals the amount of hull it has.

There's no need, or chance, to pick the ship back up again at that point.

Ok thanks. And yeah, that's what we figured when we read through the rules but it felt so un-thematic when it came to a large ship vs a flotilla that we were sure if maybe something else changed with the flotilla rules that we hadn't seen.

Thanks again for the confirmation!

And remember Rieekan! That friggin necromancer is forgotten by us so many times. Ram the ship to death, and we take it immediately of the board. Then a few moves in we think "Oh crap Rieekan!"

It is stupid how many times we have done this.

Given the timing in the rules section Ardaedhel posted, what happens in this scenario?

You have a ship with 1 hull left. Your ship moves, rams, and is placed on the station. Do you recover 1 hull point before you take the damage from the ram?

Nah. Sadly it dies first.

As CaribbeanNinja said, it dies first. It is explicitly stated in the FAQ:

Q: If a ship overlaps another ship and suffers damage so that it has damage cards equal to its hull value but its final position is overlapping the station obstacle, is that ship destroyed?
A: Yes. The station’s effect is not resolved until after the ship executes its maneuver.

Yeah, but who reads the FAQ?

So if a ship is on the station and movenent causes a ram and it never move off the station, would it heal the dmg caused by the ram, if it lived

Yes, since it would end its maneuver on the station.
