"Veteran" status?

By SoonerTed, in Star Wars: Armada

What does Veteran mean in CC? I don't have access to a rulebook but will be playing this week.

For a squadron, means you can spend it to reroll any amount of dice.

For a ship, you can flip it over to gain a command token of your choice on demand.

It does not refresh at the command phase, so it's 2 uses for entire match.

Correct me if I'm wrong, once a ship gains Veteran status, it never loses it unless it's permanently destroyed, correct?
So a Veteran ship or squadron will always come into the battle with a Veteran token.

Yes, we actually house-ruled that when a ship gets scarred it loses it's Veteran status. It can regain it again if it survives another match with a kill.

Shmitty-

I thought that was a "rule-rule"? Doesn't it state that veteran status is lost when the ship is destroyed? Maybe I am just crazy, but I thought I remember reading that. Or is it just that the ship has to survive to the end of the battle where it got the kill in order to establish it's veteran status, but then it persists even through scarring?

Doesn't it say in the rulebook that if a ship with Veteran dies, it loses its veteran status anyway?

Edit: Broba beat me to it.

We had read it as Veteran til permanently destroyed. Tried that for our first campaign, but changed it for the second.

Maybe it is just a double entendre with the word "destroyed" meaning "Destroyed in the battle resulting it being scarred or permanently removed" or "Destroyed in the permanent sense as only pertaining to the complete removal from the game." I guess I read it as the prior and not the former.

Guess it needs a re-read.

I think the confusion is coming from the ship/squad gaining veterancy if it survives the game in which is secured the kill.

If it dies after having killed something, it does not gain the veterancy.

But, once a vet, always a vet.

If that is the case, then we have been playing it wrong. Hot **** I have a permanently veteran Shara Bey

How does a ship or squadron gain Veteran status?

No, you can spend a veteran token when you reveal your dial to get a command token of your choice.

As for losing veterancy, you cannot. This is clearly stated in the campaign guide:

Quote

Veteran tokens grant a benefit to a unit's performance in battle. Unless they are eliminated, veteran ships and squadrons keep these tokens for the duration of the campaign and are never assigned additional veteran tokens.

Where "eliminated" means "destroyed in battle while scarred."

Ships: Destroy an enemy ship with an attack (ie. by rolling dice)

Unique-squadrons only: Destroy an enemy ship or squadron with an attack. (soontir/mauler etc. special abilities don't count, though counter does)

Non-unique squads need not apply.

A ship or squad must survive until the end of the battle to gain veteran status. Can't remember for sure but I think the jury's still out on whether or not hyperspace escape still allows for a ship to gain veteran status

Do non-unique ships gain veteran status?

Yes.

The only things that do not are Non-Unique Squadrons.

Essentially, every ship is Unique. Even if it doesn't have a Title, its still a Unique ship, with a specific set up of upgrades.

Sorry to thread necro but I'm curious and this was a quick one i found on google.

Ramming, count as destroying an enemy ship or no for Vet purposes?

No. You are explicitly required to destroy a ship with an attack .

Which means that, absent house rules, it is 100% impossible for your Comms Net Medium Transport GR-75 to become a veteran. :(
