Pilots with different versions of same ship

By Taltuu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm new to X-Wing, so I hope this question isn't too silly. But just curious if pilots have to go with the exact ship they are meant for. For example, I bought the Imperial Aces expansion. If I wanted to fly both "Carnor Jax" and "Kir Kanos", could I put one of them in the grey Interceptor, or possibly the regular Tie Interceptor expansion? Basically you can end up with a different versions of the same ships like the B-Wing, A-Wing, and Tie Interceptor. But of course many different pilots, are they interchangeable?

I'm not talking about doing Luke in a Y-Wing or anything like that.

Thanks for any feedback,

Taltuu

You mean just the different paint schemes? Yeah that's fully interchangeable. An Interceptor is an Interceptor the color doesn't matter, even if the card art might have a specific one depicted. Just so long as it is the correct type of ship and you put the correct cardboard token on the base.

You can use any ship model with a pilot card and dial for that ship. This means you can use the Red interceptor with an Alpha Squadron Pilot, a new falcon with a Lando pilot, or even a scum Y-wing with a gold squadron pilot. The model must be the correct ship, but it can be any version of that ship. This of course also means you can't use a TIE f/o in place of a TIE fighter since those are different ships even if they look pretty similar.

Thanks to both of you for clearing that up. That is what I thought, just wanted to make sure.

I mean, if you field Carnor Jax in a bloodstripe Interceptor and Soontir Fel in a red Interceptor, I will judge you as a person , but it's not against the rules. :)

Haha. Totally understandable, I would too. Just a game mechanics thing. I'm thinking about building a Squad Builder App for my phone. I know there are some out there, but I enjoy doing stuff like that. So, it factors into the logic that the app will have to have.

I tried something like this once in a friendly game specifically to throw off my friend... and it served to screw me up more than him! Karma's a B.

The odd thing there is that you will almost always run Fel with the Royal Guard title so in essences he IS flying one of those Red Interceptors. Jax is probably flying a RG also but if I had both pilots but only one upgrade I'd probably have the upgrade on Fel.

I run Carnor Jax occasionally, yet I don't actually own a red interceptor. Only a bloodstripe version. It's never been an issue.

Did you trade away (or trade for) part of Imperial Aces? Or paint your own bloodstripe?

Did a trade for the blood stripe and all the pilot and upgrade cards in the aces pack with a friend that had two packs.
