Speculation about Han Solo Movie

By Nate, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Now that Rogue One is in theaters, I've started looking forward to Episode VIII and the Han Solo movie. Regarding the latter, I have some questions.

1. Rogue One told the story of how the Rebels stole the Death Star plans, an event mentioned in the opening crawl of A New Hope . I wonder if the Han Solo movie will tell the story of certain events from his background: A) Rescuing Chewbacca; B) Winning the Millennium Falcon ; C) Making the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs; D) Dumping Jabba's spice cargo. Which, if any, of these do y'all think will be in the film?

2. As far as the tone is concerned, do you think it will be grittier, with an emphasis on the Han who shot Greedo in cold blood, or more of a buddy movie because of Lando being in it?

I'm thinking heist caper.

I'm feeling some kind of smorgasbord of the Brain Daley novels, Scoundrels, and some twists all mashed together. An origin story not Jabba's spice. Definitely Han winning the Falcon.

The Wook's description mentions it being an "origin story" for Han and Chewie. So, yeah.

I do know one thing: it's going to take a Herculean effort for the new actors to get any amount of acceptance. I'm not saying this as a slight against Alden Ehrenreich or Donald Glover, but just as a remark towards the fans. They have an uphill battle of a momentous degree.

I am actually excited to see them, and I think that they will be able to pull it off. If you've ever seen Alden Ehrenreich in the Coen brothers' movie 'Hail Caesar' then you know why.

I think they will do great too. Allen was good in Beautiful Creatures and Danny Glover is a hilarious stand up comedian. I have nothing but praise for there choices. Also wasn't Han an Imperial Officer in his younger years? I would like to know more about that and what led him to believe in the Rebellion.

Also is this a stand alone? Between ANH and Force Awakens Solo helped liberate Kashiek. I would like to see that movie the book was awesome describing that time.

As long as I don't hear "midichlorians" or "I don't like sand" I am fine with anything the Mouse makes.....

To make me jump off a bridge while lighting myself on fire leaps to mind as a possibility......

He's a troll. Some people just have to comment without paying attention to the topic.

He IS a pirate....

I don't know that the mouse actually cares that much, though.

I bet their won't even be any Jedi, maybe just one of those funny old guy who just happen to know what's going on with everything. ;) I hope there will be more Hutts, though. We could do with another Hutt villain and his thugs.

And some people have a sense of humor equivalent to a bowl of mayonnaise....

I don't think you would even have time to light yourself on fire.

Stick your head in the mayonnaise and drown yourself.

That would be wizard!

But seriously...you didn't even get a chuckle out of Sabine's callback to the "I don't like sand" line? ;)

inb4 topic getting locked:

Gotta have that legendary Sabbac game.

Oh yeah! I'd love to see Sabbac make it's grand appearance on the big screen! Han and Lando, two scoundrels with Lady Luck on their side, staring at each other over their cards, a pile of credits between them, and Lando pulls out the final lure, thinking he's got this hand in the bag...my favorite ship...

That would be AMAZING!

Throw in some 1313 as well on top of the Daley novels and Scoundrel. Shake it a bit, and it shouldn't be too hard to come up with a **** entertaining film.

They've already said this is what we're getting, I believe.

Really that's essentially what the Daley novels are and obviously Scoundrels, and they're all good basic adventurous romps.

Entirely possible.

Sometimes it's tough to keep official info straight from rumor and personal wishes, especially after the kind of days I've had over the past few.

Not sure Han really needs an origin story at this point, however- A full-on heist movie that embodied the most fun aspects of those novels, if done with enthusiasm, would be EXCELLENT. Those books were so much fun, and they did nothing more than tell entertaining stories about two bad guys doing bad things in space.

Really hoping that Disney goes this way with the anthology movies. If you'll pardon my saying it, I feel they SHOULD feel a bit like fanfilms, and they SHOULD be niche. I don't expect to like all of them, and that's okay. Marvel movies are fun too, and they bridge all kinds of genre, but no-one has any reason to watch all of them unless they're really invested in the franchise. On that note, hopefully we won't get to a position of over-saturation and genre stagnation anytime soon, because that would be sad.
