Speculation: Rebel Veterans

By rafcpl6868, in X-Wing

After the recent love to the Defender and Bomber, what the rebels received was simply a reboxing with a few new pilots of two of what were already some of the best ships in the game. However, as the designers have repeatedly stated their love for tournament diversity I think we will be seeing some fixes to some of the rebel ships left in the dust. Once upon a time T-65 x-wings were great. Then they became irrelevant as soon as B-wings took a better role as heavy fighters and A wings were better dogfighters. This left the T-65 as a jack of all trades and a master of none. The release of the T-70 killed the T-65. They threw in integrated astromech to bring them back, but it didn't help much. The E-wing suffers a fate akin to the pre-veterans defender. The cost was too high for an average dial and slightly better stats than average. The E-wing pops up with Corran occasionally, but that's it. Based on that, I feel that we will soon be seeing a revitalization of these ships in the gap between now and the launch of episode 8, which will add new ships entirely. I just want to hear some of the ideas that people had for fixing these ships or if you don't expect them to fix them at all based on other efforts or the abandonment of these ships forever...

Personally, I think the E wing could receive something similar to chardann refit. An idea I had there was called Engine Pods, considering those massive proton torpedo pods could easily be switched out or removed, there could be a cost reduction and adding boost to the ship. In all seriousness, the E- wing was supposed to be a combination of the x-wing series and a-wings, and since the a-wing and the T-70 x-wings have boost, it makes no sense that they do not have that option. The T-65 needs a point cost reduction or some new upgrades or it will fade away and stay gone. I think that it would be appropriate to allow two modifications on the T-65, since they are old and salvaged ships by the time the T-70 rolls around. This could open up some interesting possibilities such as putting engine upgrade and vectored thrusters on a T-65 to turn it into a slower bulkier interceptor. Honestly, I can't tell what they'll do with it. The possibility of this ship being fixed seems nearly impossible since they seem to be investing much more into the T-70 and calling it a day with integrated astromech. There is a fine line in this game between broken and unplayable.
