Chiraneau + Defender for Hangar Bay.

By WWHSD, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm looking to bring something different than I normally fly as my second list during hangar bay events.

I think Chiraneau and a Defender look promising. I was thinking something like this might work:

Maarek Stele (TIE Defender) (35)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Predator (3)
Rebel Captive (3)
Hotshot Co-pilot (4)
Gunner (5)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

I'm not sure if I should stick with Maarek or switch him out for Ryad with MII Engines (or even Ryad and a 1 point bid).

VI instead of Predator is tempting but I like the idea of building Chiraneau so that he doesn't need his action for anything other than boosting.

I was also torn between taking Vader instead of Rebel Captive. I think that I'm either too conservative with Vader and don't get much use out of him, or end up being too free with him and end up killing myself. Rebel Captive seems like it might be nice with all the Mindlink that seems to be floating around and it also can shutdown Expertise if that starts to be popular. Even if the stress token from Rebel Captive isn't cripling, in most matchups it is at least inconvenient.

I ran something similar and it was pretty brutal. I had VI and Vader instead of Predator and Captive which I think worked out better. Boosting at PS10 often provides better defense than the threat of a stress token. IMHO there are too many builds that can ignore/mitigate stress for a single token to be a reliable threat. Dengaroo doesn't care about stress Paratani has the greens to weather single tokens and /x7 Defenders aren't unduly bothered. Expertise and PTL are vulnerable I admit but I am unsure how big a splash Expertise is going to make on the meta.

Vader on the other hand will help punch through damage on irritating ships like Soontir and Fenn as well as the ever-useful case of finishing off that ship that is hanging on by a single health.

Ryad is great fun but I prefer her paired with Vessery to really make the most of her action economy with PTL. Juking Steele works better with a copiloted RAC. The extra 2 points of PS put you above the regular Ryad/Vessery pairing and shooting sooner means you are more likely to still have your Evade token to power Juke.

The PS 10 boost is nice but it seems like Predator will help to setup misses on the first attack and give Chiranaeu decent mods on attacks at range 1-2 without needing to use an action for mods.

I am left with 2 points if I switch Predator out for VI.

- Hux instead of Vader

- Brath instead of Maarek Stele for the extra point of PS.

- If I go with Brath, then using the third crew slot for Operations Specialist will get Brath a second to token with some regularity.

- Mk II engines on Maarek and a 1 point bid.

I was thinking of the PS10 as well. I also thought switching out Rebel Captive for Kyle Crew to help get certain crits through with RAC being a reliable critter. The two points could go to the title to ensure Kylo gets through even on bumps. Or boost past for the shot, which ever is better.
