Bringing back the dark lord

By naitsirk, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hello ! after a couple of time out of skirmish, i'm back with the new stuff in jabba's realm.... and i don“'t know how to make a correct list with vader. since jabba has his own rancorn and luke study jedi career, i see my poor vader a little bit out. But i'm a big fan and don“'t want to leave him alone.

Can you give me advices of what list can i create, what command deck, units, tactics , etc? (at least while i want for an skirmish "only vader" upgrade )

Ugh, well, this is a tough one. Vader is obviously way to expensive. But if you play him with a temp alliance bringing in two E gamoreans (or just one and shyla without having to borrow another gamorean or w/e), zillo, and a couple officers, might be able to have some luck. Shyla's ability to yank people can maybe help out if she is near vader. Play the two unique cards, brawler cards, etc.

It's more of a fun fred list, but I want to try this Vader list:

Vader (18)

rRoyal Guards (8)

rOfficer (2)

rOfficer (2)

eJet Troopers (7)

Zillo (1)

rOfficer (2) OR Targeting Computer and Rule By Fear (2)

I played with eJets last night, and they were both fun and seemed pretty strong. Good hit'n'run potentiel and targeting computers could eek out that extra damage. I feel I need at least 2x Officers to get Vader where he needs to be. Or maybe more of the new Force User cards. Also considered going with eRGs, but that leaves only one Officer and no other upgrades.

The combo Vader/ Shyla's sounds interesting.... must try it.

I don't know if is a good idea play with "channel the force" to take cards like "lure of the dark side" or "force dash"... and a droid to use "devotion" for another option to had the Vader's unique card. It's too hard to do something playable with the most iconic character in star wars. This must change soon!

And what about the command cards? force user focused ? worth it?

Good brawlers. Force User cards, especially those that give moment. Leader cards to get some more value out of the officers. Grenade for the troopers (Could add the new trooper card as well if you can afford it). More movement cards for Vader!

Who is this Fred guy?

Dark Lord? really more of a shady second fiddle figure (some of the other guys seemed to have more weight like Tarkin)

I love the Shyla idea - I also like the jet troopers, but I worry about them being able to carry the other half of the list. I'd be concerned about running into Luke and Obiwan in the same list and surviving their Pierce 3.

Vader's biggest problem is his short threat range. Take everything, that speeds him up. Officers, Command Cards, Unshakable.
And he is not as tough as one might think. Therefore Zillo, Rule by Fear, Royal Guards ... to protect him.

He is still not Tier 1 then, but playable.

I've been hanging out with the Dark Lord recently, testing some things.

So many things have been added to the game over the last year, topped with the new scoring, that do enable the ol' geezer. His main problem is not himself, as much as it is all those cards added with Jabba, that massively increases the surge damage of some lists - enough to bring down Vader in a wheezing heartbeat.

And I think that is no coincidence that these cards where added as the same time as the new scoring rules, to some degree balancing each other out.

Also for some inexplicable reason, he is not a hunter.

Hunt down and destroy the ... uh, nevermind

Bro, did you not see Rogue One. My boy Vader is a brawler for sure

Be respectful here people, this is Jeff Vader we're talking about. He can kill catering with his mind.

AAAAAARGGGH!!!! Not what I wanted, I just wanted to paste the link...

I've taken a stab at reworking a bunch of overcosted figures. Here's my latest take on Vader:

Quote

Skirmish Upgrade Card: Dark Father of Skywalker (Darth Vader only) Cost: 0

Increase Health +5

Dark Lord's Fury: At the end of the round, gain movement points equal to your Speed and then either perform an attack or use Force Choke. Limit once per round.

When you play the Command card Lord of the Sith, you also gain 2 movement points for each figure you defeat.

I did some fixing tries in a recent post:

When he uses force chocke, if the affected figure is small and with figure cost 9 or less, can push the figure up to 3 spaces.

Then, a kind of terror aura that affect hostile figures with figure cost 9 or less that apply -1 evade.

And an exhaust card ability to interrupt to move up to 2 space during his activation (in order to move between brutality attacks)

I can't wait to see the official fix for vader!!

I just played a skirmish mission and Vader slaughtered Obi-Wan and Jedi Luke with help from Captain Terro.

I don't play competitively so keep that in mind.

Luke went for Terro and got hit by a couple flame throwers and 2 solid attacks before defeating Terro. Luke had 2 health left!

Obi-Wan foolishly went for Darth Vader and got slaughtered with some help from a probe droid.

Luke tried to move out of the way and hide from a force choke but Vader double moved and force surged for 1 more, putting him adjacent to his son, and mercilessly slashed him down.

Now, I ended up losing the skirmish in the end with only 3 damage on Vader and he was bleeding.

This leads me to believe that Darth Vader doesn't really need more...he needs less. Less deployment points to be precise.

If I was able to bring 5...maybe 6 more deployment points worth of figures to the board, it wouldn't have guaranteed me a victory and would have made the skirmish that much closer/better.

I was left with Vader and an elite stormtrooper with 1 health...who got shot and killed by Gideon of all people at 6 range (I took the risk of moving the stormtrooper within range 6 after his move to be able to double move next round and get 10vps and the win). Risking that, I lost...oh well, that's life.

I had to run for it because I had 2 full health wookiees, an elite rebel saboteur, gideon, and 3pO. Vader could take the wookiees, but not with an elite sab with targeting computer and all those focused attacks against him.

I kinda feel that if Vader gets more abilities, it's just more incentive to ignore him.

I really think if he just cost 12 points, maybe even 13, he's totally viable. He'll be a target for sure, but he's got double black defense and a re-roll, nobody else has that! Oh yeah, Zillo as well!
