Buzz Droids

Still need to work on the Discord Missiles so they can be fired from a ship. What do you guys thing so far?

Why did you go with making them a rival, rather than a minion group? They always struck me as minions...

Also what scale is their weapon on? It would need be vehicle if you want them to go after star-fighters.

Otherwise it looks interesting.

It looks like they're a Rival so the can take advantage of the Swarm trait introduced in Beyond the Rim . Essentially, a Rival with Swarm represents a number of small individuals as a single enemy. Inflicting Wounds on the Rival decreases the size, but not the effectiveness, of a Swarm.

One issue. As the Stormtrooper pointed, out, they appear to do personal-scale damage. How do they breach ships?

Buzz droids were intended to disable instead of destroy their targets. Once they came into contact with an enemy ship, they would use a magnetic leg to gain a foothold. The outer shell was coated with a heat dissipating alloy that allowed it to penetrate enemy shields; it was also constructed of shock-absorbing materials. The droids were effective against infantry, swarming their opponents and latching onto them. They were no match, however, for a lightsaber, as used by the two Jedi. This info is what I have seen in the movie and show so far and what I was able to find on the wiki page about them.

A lot of times they where fired out of a ship using a Discord missile, or just fields of them out in space so people would fly into them. They where only a little bigger then the head of an R2 unit. How they Damage ships by different tools it had on board like drills, plasma cutters and many other little thing you might find on the belt of a mechanic.

I guess the point I'm making is that, unless the drill weapon's 3 damage is planetary scale damage, they're going to have to roll a whole mess of successes to get past even any damage at all on a ship. If that is personal scale damage, then sure, Breach ignores the first point of armor, but unless they roll 7 successes, they won't do enough damage to meet the 10-to-1 conversion from personal to planetary scale damage.

Is breach not armor of a ship and pierce not for personal scale? (Books not in front of me) Beach 1 should be equal to pierce 10 yes?

Personal scale weapons can have breach, for example the missile tube and anti-vehicle mine (pg. 173 in the AoR core) both have breach, but are on the personal scale.

Yes Breach 1 and Pierce 10 should have the same effect, even though the book doesn't specify if 10 points of pierce ignore one point of armor (can pierce even get that high?).

Sure, but some personal scale weapons also have breach. In this case, if the drill is personal scale, let's put it up against a ship with Armor 1. The buzz droids make their roll and get three successes. With Breach 1, it ignores the 1 point of Armor the ship has, but since it only does six personal scale damage (3 damage + 3 successes), it doesn't do enough damage to inflict even a single point of Hull Trauma to a ship (since 1 HT = 10 personal scale damage).

So is their damage planetary scale, then?

I see what your saying now so ya it would have to be planetary scale weapon and put say beach 3 on there to make sure that damage + could hit, and its not doing Hull its doing strain (systems) so it would not destroy.

IMO, these things should be Silhouette 0 vehicle/droids. They should do planetary-scale damage, because that’s what is required to actually hurt starfighters and the like. Their weapons shouldn’t do a great deal of damage on the planetary scale, so they don’t destroy a starfighter in a single round, but that’s the scale they should be operating at.
