"good WILL hunting" spec talents

By EliasWindrider, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

This is a thought experiment, I am not actually proposing to make a homebrew spec,...

But I've toyed with the idea of making a "good will hunting" spec focusing on willpower related talents like

  • steely nerves (spend a DP to ignore the effects of critical injuries on willpower and presence)
  • force of will (once per session may use willpower in place of another attribute but you have to explain how its relevant in this circumstance)
  • mind over matter (spend a DP to regain strain equal to willpower)
  • death blow (another executioner talent, spend a DP add damage equal to will power to one hit of one attack)
  • constant vigilance (a sentry talent, may always use vigilance for initiative checks, vigilance depends on willpower as opposed to cool which depends on presence)
  • Intimidating
  • confidence

(of course with a force rating and dedication)

The theme is obviously any talent that pairs well with having a high willpower, or a skill based on willpower (coercion, vigilance, discipline). The question is what other talents fit the theme?

I'm hoping (and I don't think it's entirely far fetched) that the new "arbiter" spec from the upcoming "disciples of harmony" could be an "I am the law, what I say goes" willpower based spec. I doubt I'd get the full wish list but given that consular is the willpower career (it has niman disciple), "arbiter" sounds like a law enforcing/imposing negotiator, likely has the consular's conflict talent, "kind of lightsaber combat" spec, I don't think it's entirely far fetched that a few talents off the list end up in arbiter. At least that's what I am hoping for

Seems like it could be pretty super powered in combination with Niman.

Call it Executioner perhaps?

Executioner is already an official spec with 2 talents on my list (mind over matter and deathblow), but I kind of think you already knew that, and... this perhaps was the point of your post? Honestly it feels like there might be subtext/innuendo here but i'm taking a wild shot in the dark what it might be because I really don't have a clue. But that's kind of what a mild case of asperger's is like most of the time, it is for me anyway and i'm on a med that increases emotional connectiveness.

1) it's a thought experiment, not a proposal for a real spec

2) seeing how super powered it could get (in combination with Niman disciple) is kind of the point of the thought experiment

3) i'm half expecting arbiter to have 1-3 talents in this theme (everything I proposed so far arguably fits the fluff text released in the first disciples of harmony promo)

Sorry, my comment was a little tongue in cheek referring to the thread title.

i think the list of talents you came up with is a little too optimised for a single specialisation, especially in a Force and Destiny career.

No worries about the tongue in cheek talent which I still don't entirely get (a detailed explanation would actually help), I just rightly strongly suspected it was there.

I'm not expecting the full list of talents to ever make it into an official spec and I am not proposing creating a custom spec to be used in actual play, it's strictly a thought experiment about how bad ģover powered could we make this if we tried. And really the only feasible way to make this is as an npc.

BTW with Niman disciple, sentry, executioner, and force sensitive emergent, and steely nerves as a scar talent, you could get most of the list

Anyway the question is, is there anything else interesting to put on the purely hypothetical list?

I have to agree with Richardbuxton, in that yet again, much as you tried to do over on the AoR forums to get your "Jason Bourne" spec you're trying to create a single spec to include everything you want without having to purchase additional specializations.

If you want all those goodies, then you're going to have to pay the piper and purchase the additional specializations. While FFG may not have gone out of their way to carefully balance all the specializations against one another, it is very much a balance factor that none of the specs in any of the three product lines offers "everything" that a player might want.

So what I was saying is that the good Willpower Hunter ie "good will hunting" that already exists in the system is the Executioner.

anyway on with the actual thread, these are the other talents I would add to the list:

Scathing Tyrade

Plausible Deniability

Hard Headed (Mechanic, Saboteur,

Loom

Natural Enforcer

Bad Cop

No Escape

Baleful Gaze

Terrify

Then there is Farsight for Vigilance and Influence for Coercion.

Specialisations that fit well the theme are:

Agitator (Intimidating, Scathing Tyrade + Imp & Sup, Plausible Deniability, Nobody's fool)

Ambassador (Steely Nerves, Confidence)

Advocate (Improved Plausible Deniability, Interjection)

Force Sensitive Emergent (Force of Will)

Enforcer (Intimidating, Natural Enforcer, Loom)

Marshal (Hard Headed, Bad Cop)

Warden (Intimidating, Scathing Tyrade, Bad Cop, No escape, Baleful Gaze)

Aggressor (Intimidating, Plausible Deniability, Terrify & Imp, Prey On the weak)

Niman Disciple (Niman Technique)

Executioner (Mind Over Matter, Deathblow)

Sentry (Constant Vigilance)

The difference this time is I am explicitly NOT proposing to create a spec that gets any play time in any game... it's explicitly a thought experiment (and I have said that in every post i've made in this thread), it is purely a "what if" exercise, and the only "use" it might get in actual play would be to help me chose 1 or 2 raw specs to take in a build.

Thanks that helps a lot
