stacking actions

By samantho, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Can I use a .45 automatic and a knife together for one action to get the +1 fight from the knife as well as the bonus from the gun if I have both equipped?

No stacking.

You'll see the 'action trigger' on those cards, the arrow symbol. It's formatted so-

cost to resolve ability : effect of ability

The arrow (corresponding to one of your turn's actions), plus ammo, whatever else, are the cost. Then the colon (:), acting as a conjuction. Then the effect you've paid to get the benefits of.

From p4 of the Rules Ref:

When performing an action, all costs of the action
are first paid. Then, the consequences of the action resolve.

The important takeaway here is that, after initiating an action, you immediately have to resolve its effects. There are no opportunities while resolving that ability to trigger additional actions.

Basically, you use the .45 ability. You must finish your pistol business before you get to look at your knife text.

I wouldn't mind seeing some weapons that grant, say, a flat +1 Combat on all Fight checks and a conditional +1 damage on successful Fight checks made using Combat.

Maybe on an upgraded Switchblade?

Flat bonuses to skills exist, but not on weapons. You can find them on allies (Beat Cop, Cat Burglar), accessories (Holy Rosary) or non-weapon hand items (Magnifying Glass). The only flat bonus to damage is on Lita Chantler (a story asset). So I think they'll stick with damage bonuses on weapons (as part of their attack actions) and one-shot effects (like Vicious Blow or Zoey's elder sign effect).

thanks for responses guys...so if I have 2 guns or a gun and knife then theres now way for me to use them both at the same time?

Correct, each is an asset with an Action on it. You can't combine actions, they get taken separately. You could still use both on one turn, but they are separate actions and are resolved as such. That way you can save your gun (and ammo!) for something tougher, and use your knife for an easier monster.

Not currently, but I would expect that design space to be explored in the future.

Maybe, but I think a flat damage bonus is a very powerful effect, so I doubt it'll show up on anything but a story asset.

seems we been cheating in my campaigns so far then! ;)

Not a flat bonus, but a conditional one.
