Z-95 Revamp
That is fine my Elder Brother... we WILL do this. I have my toy budget set for getting dat Wave Ten and also I did not get to buy all of the goodies I needed for ROGUE ONE Games last month.
Now they are in stock again so I got two U-WINGS and five TIE Strikers tonight, to go with the whole great big one of each ship I was able to get in January.
Anyway next month I am going to drop at least $100 at Shapes. I just want to see how good that new black stuff is and read what you have to say about it before I go with FUD or FED.
Ok. the upgraded Z-95 that began this thread is in production now at Shapeways in FED/FUD/and Hi Def Acrylate. I'll post side by sides etc when they arrive but it wont be until the middle of the month

Th swing wing concept possibly. I have the art of book and they dont mention the Z-95 by name when talking about the creation process for the U Wing but do talk about linking the aesthetics. Not anything conclusive but it could be taken that way....From a certain point of view

Ok. The three Z-95 test models came in. As expected FED is better than FUD.But not to a huge extent. But could still be worth it. Hi def acrylate has a smooth toy like appearance but it definitely showed off the details very well. A couple of the raised panels were a bit too raised in HDA but nothing that couldnt be fixed. I think it would be a good material for someone who doesnt mind doing a bit of work. But i have no problem with the way the details showed. All the panel lines and engine conduits showed as well as in FUD and it does seem to be a sturdy material. ill post a group shot before and after priming to show you what i mean in the next day or so. based on that i am definitely going to make the tiurrets available in all three materials. I am always impatient waiting for my ships to arrive. Glad i had my prototype E-Wing project in the works to pass the time.
Ok. havent painted them yet but here is the unpainted right out of the box pic. The HDA as i said is good but has a very slight 'melted look. which for the right model would probably be a good thing. But it is sturdy and takes paint well I have just finished a completely revamped Ravenheart and a 6.35 inch Praetor class Imperial battlecruiser for Armada And i might order it in that material since, at least on the Ravenheart, the details are much more pronounced than on a small fighter. But that will be a while

I do like the sturdiness of HDA but id still stick with FED or FUDi think for small ships. But i dont know it doesnt look bad. I suppose it depends on whether it is going to get a lot of hard use and the durability would make up for the not quite as good finish. One the Praetor has finished converting to STL ill get the turret sets up. But it is a bit of a detailed model so is taking a bit of time
took a lot of work for something that is less than 7inches
Oh. ANd when i redid the Ravenheart i did a variation on the ball turret. should i add them to the sets?
I am fine with the sets we already talked about. I nude missile set like the torp set would be cool.
I want to see the ships below made by YOU in the new smooth sweet black stuff. I will buy them all at the first of the month from you.

the Z-TIE, the E-wing and the Z-95 sets i can do easily i just have to make them availiable in that material. the others will take time as im catching up on a backlog of design requests. let me finish the detailing on my E Wing prototype and post a pic, you might, or might not, prefer it. I was never overly happy about the way the E-wings engines were attached so made them integral to the wing and i think it looks better. And less like the standard version of the E because i dont wish to make anything that FFG already makes.

i cant do justice to that in 1/270 spindly guns etc.Printability and all that. Mine isnt that radical a departure i just made the thrusters a little more X wing like to reflect the lineage and combined them with the long thin thrusters of the E Wing. and changed the guns because i truly hate the gun above the cockpit thing. i have a twin ion cannon variant as well (after all there is a scene in the Dark Empire comic where they specifically say "ready the ions and missiles") That just has two guns on the wings. This isnt complete but it shows the direction im going in.

Im still not sure about my Z-TIE. But then im never sure about uglies in general. And im not overly happy with the E Wing hull detailing. The panelling looks too panelly if you take my meaning sir. If you are not ordering untl next month i might clean it up a bit

I plan on ordering in about two weeks Brah... fix 'em up. I want that little twin turret and you might as well take the head gun off so I can use the turret. like on your other E-Wing and the green one I posted above.
Make the better versions of the Black Sun ships too.
