Swarm Leader Swarm

By Jerval, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So with the release of the Swarm Leader EPT I have been trying to figure out a way to make a list that works with it and the best use for it, here is what i came up with...

Darth Vader

Squad Leader, TIE/X1, Advanced Targeting Computer

Howlrunner

Crackshot

Omega Leader

Juke, Comm Relay

Omega Ace

Swarm Leader

100 pts.

Overall list with High pilot skills with Omega Ace being the finishing blow, the other 3 pilots eat through the token stacks of my intended target and then Omega Ace finishes them off with the 4 Crit result, leaving nothing but a cloud of space dust! thoughts?

missclicked

The best use for Swarm Leader is with ships that get a free evade, or ships that are expendable enough to give up their evade action for another ship. If you're set on using Swarm Leader, I recommend the following:

1- x7 Defenders

2- TIE/v1 (Advanced Prototypes)

3- Generic TIEs

tl;dr - Very specialised list, but it might be worth seeing your opponent's face when 4 Crits swing out from a TIE/fo.

A few points of critique.

Omega Leader actually does less for eating through token stacks. Your opponent can't modify their dice, so they aren't going to bother spending the tokens. I recommend Zeta Leader instead, if you want a ship to help strip tokens.

Howlrunner is really good for rerolls, but this also paints a massive target on her back. Squadmom needs her evade tokens to survive, unfortunately.

I do like the idea of using Vader to help Omega get his Target Lock. Seeing as Vader will pretty much always move last, that'll mean the Ace will be able to get his combo off, as long as his target is in arc.

In the end though, I'm going to have to agree with jmswood. Any ship that has the Evade action generally needs it to survive, especially on the Imperial side. The only ship in this list that wouldn't punish you for pulling Evades is Vader, and that isn't really getting the bang for your buck. Predator, or even Lone Wolf would be more cost efficient. It's a lot of moving parts that don't fit quite right, to make a really big hammer. And unfortunately, not everything's a nail.

Still, it IS a really big hammer.

Nevermind, I can't read...

What I like about this squad is that the Swarm Leader shoots last or nearly last. Of the two games I've tried with that upgrade, the first crit-filled attack just landed on shields because the 'spotters' were lower PS. Obviously the opponent wants to shoot Omega Ace because of the threatening number of dice he can fully mod to crits. But Howlrunner and Vader become huge targets, messing with target priority. I like the different direction this squad has gone, but I agree it will be challenging to fly without getting your own ships destroyed in a hurry.

Scratch this have a better one. lolz

Vader

VI or pred if you drop the SD off vess, EU, title, ATC

Vess

Swarm leader, Stealth device, X7

Omega Leader

Juke/comm relay.

vader and OL are both closers if they focus Vess but if they ignore him OL and vader feed TLs for his pilot abilty
