The Great Player Character Thread

By Seguleh, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi, I would like to see and present some player characters. I have some ideas for characters in my head, like every roleplayer, but some of them are missing some details or dont feel 100% smooth. Though you guys have the same issue, or just want to present your favourite characters, feel free, it is always an inspiration (or to put it simple: nice to steal fro for my own game).

Ideas for development, story or stats are always welcome for all characters!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Character idea: Cybernetic Brawler (3 1 4 2 2 2)

A besalis´k, who starts as technichan (Cyberneticist) and later takes some melee spec, like Marouder.

I think the combination fits, both in terms of gameplay (melee fighting and repairing/healing doesnt happen very oft at the same time) and it terms of synergy (the enhancements of cybernetics make him a good fighter, maybe with some gadgets). He also can develop either in ore feighting or more supporting (repairing, healing, enhance equipment), depending on what the group constellation is.

What I miss, or cant realy imagine, is where he comes from. Where do cybernetics got their knowledge? A university? i can imagine the hour 0, when game starts, and everything beyond this point, but not his past. - A cybernetics student who is a big fan of ultimate fighting an got kicked out of school because he beat someone up? a talentet cyberneticist who worked for an crime syndicate and was bullied by the strong guys and wants revenge? both ideas are... meh

I want to post two more, but i am to tired, so they will come tomorrow

HM-6T6 is one of my favourites, a silly design based around using Athletics to repair ships! It's certainly not very broad in capability and could really do with a few hundred xp to get more versatility. But it's a fun character

Khit Ne with her Ronto mount is my other favourite. She is essentially a wildlife protector, using Hunter and Protector. It's an odd but interesting combination for an untrained Force User that I hope to get back on the table one day when I'm not GMing.

Former military explains a lot of things. You could say that he was a soldier in the Ojom Home Guard, and that’s where he picked up that stuff. That’s the background I started with for Ping Krell .

I may add my actual characters later but this is an idea i have been playing with for a while.

Jana Binks.

Jana has a terrible family past, Jana has an uncle JarJar! Horrified at what her uncle did to the galaxy Jana went forth into the galaxy to prove that her family and her race were not just a giant galactic joke. Remorseful of the rise of the Empire and "representative" Binks's involvement in bringing the Emperor's to power Jana is a rebellion member. Tough, Melancholic and determined Jana WILL help bring freedom back to the galaxy.

I have a few that I'm always willing to share. Links go to details pages, with their own links to character sheets:

Theris Nan'Tay - newly (and regretfully) promoted to Lieutenant in the Belderone Rebel Sector Force. Spends almost all "in character" time being loaned out to special tasks, is actually in command of a platoon "back home". In fact, I have an entire squad of that platoon detailed (from back when he was just a Sergeant). Participates in an old WEG module revamped for FFG SW, he was pulled from his squad to help acquire a secret route through an otherwise impassable bit of space, which quickly became a rescue mission. Was decorated for his service and promoted to Master Sergeant, given the Platoon Sergeant position in his platoon, and became Lt. when the officer died during an operation pulling refugees and recruits from a siege on Caamas. He was stranded there for 15 days and got pretty badly wounded. Possibly developing PTSD.

He's a Tactician turned Trailblazer. I really like the combat buffs present in both Specs, and our party already has both a very capable Face and ranged combatant (and used to have a Bodyguard), so support makes a nice continuation. Depending on how his story develops, he might become a Strategist, an Instructor, or another combat spec (he might get an invitation to SpecForce here at some point).

William Tarner - Jedi Knight at the twilight of the Republic. Recently lost his Padawan during the Clone Wars, which hit him hard. Spent a while pre-campaign recovering, mentally and physically, in the Jedi Temple. Partially disillusioned with the Jedi and their Code, in large part due to their handling his loss and, to a lesser but more persistent degree, his own experience with the Living Force. Believes emotion/connection are part of life and is starting to come to the conclusion that the Jedi's strength lies in their ability to be connected and in tune with the galaxy. Will eventually likely see the "modern" Jedi for what they are: corrupt, hypocritical, and blindly following a poorly interpreted creed.

As you may have guessed, he's a Seer and Niman Disciple. Started with lots of XP to account for the power level of high-level Republic Operatives during the Clone Wars, with powers focused on Healing and Battle Meditation to suit his background. I'm playing with the Seer fluff that they're "always connected to the Force" and flavoring it as an "always-on" but obnoxious and distracting Sense basic power. This is what gives him his belief and deep knowledge surrounding the Living Force.

Sovod - orphan, rabble-rouser, and headstrong bad-ass. His parents dumped him on Lathe, where he selflessly, and perhaps a touch ruthlessly, defended the spaceport orphans from harm and exploitation. Was picked up by a Warden of the Sky who was secretly a Jedi before she was killed by an Inquisitor. He joined a bit late in the game (after the first session), and his introduction to the party was getting in a bar fight (against a local bully) in front of one our party-members. They're now romantically involved, so he must have impressed her with his ability to throw people through windows.

Sovod is a Warden, which makes me giddy. As a martial artist myself, it's really fun to play one, especially as I'm capable of writing decent description in the play-by-post format he's in. Excited for the Martial Artist Spec from No Disintegrations. The Warden might be my favorite specialization; I think it's very streamlined and it's clear how all the talents are supposed to work together, thematically and mechanically. So I'm having fun playing him

Cyber Techs can learn their craft in any way a Doctor can, I'd imagine. Maybe your Besalisk was just getting started on their boxing career when they were maimed in the ring and needed cybernetic replacements. He didn't have enough money to buy them, so he had to apprentice himself to the local back alley doctor as an indentured servant to pay off his debt.

The one character that I haven't been able to leave alone is the one I'm currently playing in a Roll20 game: Talia Sto Helit . I decided to make one of those broken Force Sensitive Pantoran techies I've been hearing so much about to see how it goes in practice. So far I've discovered that well-crafted weaponry can make up pretty well for poor combat stats, and that it can make your combat-focused allies so deadly that your own performance doesn't matter. She has a latent sense of justice, but she's also easily swayed and more inclined to focus on her own projects and droids rather than other people, though that is changing now that she has discovered her Force Sensitivity. The main thing I keep waffling about is what direction to develop her in once I max out Intellect, and I'm divided between lightsaber combat and social skills. Soresu Defender or Makashi Duelist are obvious mechanical choices, but Soresu feels too passive for her focus on problem-solving, and she's too practical to learn Makashi in a galaxy full of blasters. Either way I'll probably go into Artisan and maybe Advisor eventually, but I'm indecisive.

Sto Helit? I'd like to hear the explanation for the Discworld reference... :D

Mostly I was looking for an appropriately aristocratic sounding name, but let's just say that Soul Music had a substantial impact on my childhood, and I still reread The Hogfather on a yearly basis.
