CC: Upgrade Limit

By n00bzilla99, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I have someone in my CC group that is claiming that the one upgrade limit applies to the entire campaign because there is no specific sentence that undoes this limitation in the book. Is he wrong, or how is it supposed to be played?

Has this been submitted as an FAQ already?

He is wrong. It is just when you start. Check the refit/resource section. It talks about adding upgrades and moving them between ships.

He has made the argument that this refers to ships that have a Commander equipped and their single upgrade hence the word "upgrades." I unfortunately don't see any hard wording that over-rides the one upgrade card limit. Maybe I'm just not reading this right?

I feel your pain on this nOObzilla99, I'm also debating with someone about what rules are and aren't in effect after the 400 pt fleet build, and there isn't much said on it. If the 1 card per ship limit is gone.. then is the one unique per team also gone? Why is one gone and the other not? I'm pretty sure it's right, but I can't piece it together from the rule book.

Because the 1 Unique per team is, specifically stated to be in effect for the entire campaign .

The other is still silent on the matter.

It does say that? Cause I couldn't find that statement. Was it in the bullet points about the first fleet creation? I don't have the rules here to look at right now.

CC Rulebook, Page 5, "BUILD FLEETS"

Each player has a fleet value of 400 fleet points with which to build a single fleet to command at the start of the campaign. Players can discuss strategies and must coordinate the building of their fleets with teammates to follow the team restrictions below.

To build a fleet, each player choose a commander to lead it. A team cannot have more than one copy of each commander. After choosing commanders, players build their fleets. They must follow the fleet-building rules found on page 6 of the Armada rules Reference, with the following exceptions:

" A Team cannot have more than one copy of a card with a unique name. For example, if a palyer chooses the "Darth Vader" commander upgrade for his fleet, no other plan on that team can include a "Darth Vader" card in his fleet, even if that card is of a different ype (such as the "Darth Vader" squadron card). This rule applies for the duration of the campaign (see "Refit and Expand Fleets" on page 11) , if players within a team cannot agree on fleet-building choices, the Grand Admiral makes the final decisions."

"Players may equip only one upgrade card to each small, medium, or large ship. Each player's commander does not count against this limit, each player must choose one ship to be his flagship and equip his commander to that ship."

Bold, Underline Emphasis mine, which shows the second dot point on equipping only one upgrade card, is to be adhered to during FLEET BUILDING ....

Nowhere does it state it applies elsewhere in the campaign.

Ok. It is there, cool. I'm guessing I skimmed that haphazardly when I was trying to find that rule as I thought that was about "what to do with the 400 pt fleet" not "what to do after". Rookie mistake.

Thanks Dras.
