Did I create my droid right?

By Trigger Happy Droid, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have made a knight level modified MI-Series Security Droid named Trigger Happy for my character for a game that is been running for a long time. I am new to this game system. I have replaced his light repeating blasters with VX Sidewinders that I bought with the 9000 starting credits. And I bought the Optical Camouflage System. The droid can be found in the Force and Destiny Endless Vigil book page 46. And if I create a force sensitive character at knight level or basic level can I increase my force rating at character creation with exp? And can I buy one force power at character creation?

First droid: Your XP total is off. You should have 175 starting + 150 Knight Level. I'd suggest you review and fix, and then re-post.

Both droids: their characteristic ratings are way too high. A droid starts with 1's in each characteristic. Both your builds blow past their max allowable starting XP of 195 (and this figuring for the maximum Obligation increase of +20). Make sure you re-read the rules regarding characteristic increases and understand how much each rank costs.

This is one of my droids that I am remaking. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4T1T7qomVjGa1pYeTVfTzFQR3M/view?usp=sharing

He is not finished yet. I have used 180 exp on his stats. I have also bought some skill ranks for him. I want to replace his light repeating blasters with the sidewinder guns from EotE Dangerous Covenants book page 44. The droid is the same one in the FaD book Endless Vigil page 46. I want my droid to have a personal shield generator. Do I want to buy the shield generator before the sidewinders? And what items do you suggest for him to start with? And do you have any more tips? Sorry google drive keeps giving the old one.

This one is the correct one. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4T1T7qomVjGaS1xUHFkOENRSjg/view?usp=sharing

So is this a PC or NPC?

if it's a PC you still haven't fully understood how to spend starting experience on raising characteristics. You can only raise characteristics 1 point at a time, and each time it cost 10 times the new characteristic to raise it.

So to raise a char of 1 to 2 costs 20xp

to raise a 2 to 3 costs 30xp

to raise a 3 to a 4 costs 40xp

Therefore to raise a 1 to a 4 (such as you did with Brawn) costs 20+30+40=90xp

for your character of 4,2,2,2,3,1 you would need to spend 90+20+20+20+50=200xp. Thst amount of xp is simply impossible using RAW.

Once you have completed basic character creation your no longer able to spend experience on directly raising characteristics. For each single point increase you must buy a Dedication talent situated at the bottom of almost every Specialisation talent tree. Additionally you may install Cybernetics, which being a Droid is highly recommended. Also there is no way of gaining talents outside of the Specialisations such as the one you have from Endless Vigil without negotiating with your GM and perhaps using the Battle Scars rules from Forged In Battle.

if this is an NPC though then don't even worry about xp, just make it whatever you want.

This is a PC and my calculator says that to raise brawn from 1 to 4 is 90xp? And this is a knight level character.

Sorry, your correct and I can't add up for the 1-4 thing. But you have still spent 200xp on characteristics alone. With a starting bank of 175 there is no way to raise that extra 25xp.

the knight level is spent after completing the entire standard character creation process. Think of it like 150xp worth of adventuring that you the player doesn't have to actually do. This means that XP can not be spent directly on raising characteristics.

Basically just drop one of Agility, Intellect or Cunning down to a 1 and take 5 additional xp with +5 Obligation to have the 180 required. This spends all your starting xp. Then you have the 150 to spend on skills and talents.

Alternativly you could reduce the Brawn of 4 to a 3, that means you have spent 160 of your xp and have 15 to start towards the Dedication. You then buy down to that with the knight level xp and use it to raise Brawn to 4.

i should also point out that a Knight level character can raise skills to rank 3. Considering your Agility 2 you should probably consider doing this with at least Ranged Heavy as it will improve your Dice pool to APP and that extra die can make a big difference.

Except you can only spend XP to raise attributes during the original character generation phase. The extra 150xp you get for Knight Level can only be spent on buying talents, skills, new specializations, Force powers (if you’re a Force-sensitive character), etc….

Your characteristics are too high, man. A droid PC starts with 1's in each characteristic. There is no way you can get those kind of stats with starting XP.

Oh I see what you did, I think. The Mod III/IV cyber stuff. Okay, hold on :)

Okay, so new question: where did you get the credits to buy cyber arms and cyber legs? You start with 500 creds. Knight Level grants you +9,000, and max Obligation/Duty can possibly give you +2,500 for a maximum possible total of 12,000 credits' worth of starting gear. At 10,000 credits a piece, purchasing cyberlegs AND cyberarms should be out of the question.

Droids can start with some gear for free based on their role. I am thinking that because the droid model in the book has a brawn of 4, I took the cyberlimbs to match. Should I at least remove the cyber legs or arms?

Droid Player Characters don't get any equipment for free. They have to spend credits for starting equipment, just like everyone else! They get 175 XP, some special abilities pertaining to their mechanical nature, and 500 starting credits just like everyone else.

What's nice about droid PCs is that they can treat some equipment as "integrated" rather than worn or held. Scanners, tool kits, armor, etc, can be really useful for a droid to just have at the ready. Some combat droids can integrate melee or ranged weapons into their limbs, even though doing so would probably get you noticed by the wrong people, and also probably make you very illegal in most systems.

But they don't get gear for free.

I have updated the droid. Can he still have the brain implant because it has his comlink?

As long as you pay credits for it, I'd allow it!

It's pretty much up to your GM as to what he'd allow.

The other thing that worries me is your "twin" heavy weapons. Ranged (Heavy) weapons cannot be used with two-weapon fighting. But even so, your repeating blaster should have the autofire quality, so you don't need linked or fighting with two weapons to get multiple hits in.

I would take more time to research stuff for a more compete reply, but I understand you're starting like now :)

Let me know how your first session goes @Trigger Happy Droid !
