Ironic or Oxymoronic species/career combinations

By Scambler, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Need some ideas. I have a player that wants to play something along the lines suggested by the title. Her first example (if we didn't already have a dr. wold have been a wookie doctor whose forearms are shaved so her fur doesn't cause infections.) She's an excellent RPer and weirdness is right up her alley but I just can't think of anything.

What do you guys suggest?

I have a Noghri commando turned doc/sage with a pacifist streak.

Gamorran face?

Someone here suggested a Hutt performer who was disowned by his family for pursuing a dancing career over crime.

Wookie doctor is the classic OP spec ... it's far from ironic or oxymoronic.

Trandoshan singer (Performer)

Chadra-Fan / Polis Massan / Drall enforcer (Any Brawling Spec)

Hutt Pilot (Hot Shot)

Whiphid Politico

Aqualish Proctologist (Doctor)

Here are a few ideas... I like the last one... subtle but so funny :)

Ewok mechanic

Jawa Maurauder

One of the strengths, if you'll call it that, is that it doesn't* restrict certain species from certain careers, unlike other games which kind of did. A number of players like to play contrary to species stereotypes, while a number of players do.

In the most mechanical sense, though, Dressellians are fundamentally at a disadvantage with technology, so a Dressellian Technician or Engineer is a little unusual. Drall, because of their extremely unusual characteristic distribution, are difficult to design for physical combat. A Cyber Tech Lannik is a little off, because of their appreciation for battle scars.

*The obvious exception being droids, which cannot be Force-users.

Honestly, with all the "calling" (howling?) they did in TCW, these doesn't even seem that weird.

Some of my favorites are the Hutt Ataru Striker (combine with Pathfinder for even more "WTF how is he doing that?!?"), the Chadra-Fan Heavy (it's Rocket Raccoon!), and the Aqualish Ambassador (it just seems...off).

So yeah, my two deci-creds!

Nikto charmer

A Bothan who is not a spy.

Chevin Charmer.

Polis Massan Heavy

Droid Gambler ("Never tell me the odds!")

Gungan Aggressor

Toydarian Hermit

These are great, folks! Hopefully she'll take a liking to one. My favs so far are:

The Polis Massan Heavy

The droid gambler with perhaps an addition obligation but they always fold because the odds for every game are in the house's favor.

The Bothan that is anything but a spy (maybe we adjust the base characteristics by lower the Intellect 1 and raising something else).

Something with the Jawa or Ewok.

Keep 'em coming. these are great.

ewok marauder I gotta play it at some point!

Maybe a droid performer that only has basic and mundane personality chips. :)

"I just flew in from Coruscant and boy are my servos tired... ha ha ha."

There was a cheat code for Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds which created a very fast, tough, and powerful Ewok unit. Very amusing.

I was in a game where we had a murder-wok. Somehow, the player had figured out how he could get the Strength boosted to 5, and he went around just ripping things apart.

That game didn’t last too long. And my LE-series repair droid had gotten pretty psychotic/paranoid schizophrenic by the time it was over, due to all the murders that he had been complicit with.

We had a guy who wanted to do a Toydarian Heavy. But we could never figure out how he would handle the Light Repeating Blaster.

On important element to this is where you put your xp for characteristics.

A low Int Mechanic with a high Presence. They are the friendly face who fixes things through sheer skill. Useless with any other Intellect based skill.

The low Brawn Heavy is another good one, already mentioned.

Low Agility Pilot? Perhaps with a crazy Cunning. Years of smuggling has given them a wealth of experience at the yoke, but don't put a gun in their hands.

How about a high Presence Pathfinder (they don't have a single presence based Career skill!). Get them a parrot, a decent Agility and Cunning and the Influence and Seek force power. Add a sword and pistol... got yourself a jack sparrow there (idea stolen from MAS)
