Magnetic gaming mat option?

By Artifixprime, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

I've had quite a few PVC gaming mats printed with pixart printing and have worked out very well.

I got a promo mail from them this morning that intrigued me - nominally these magnetic sheets for printing advertising on so you can stick it to your car/van.

Wonder if you could use it for a magnetic gaming mat though? a 3x3 version looks to come in at a bit over €50 (delivered), so not all that cheap and also my not roll up as well as other materials. Think it could work?

It is a nice idea and can help avoid those instances where people knock another model while turning a squadron from red to blue or applying shield damage.

I wonder how strong they are? Probably the strength of the magnets you glue to the underside of your models are more important.

I'd guess about as strong as fridge magnets maybe?

I don't think anything will hold ships/squadrons rock solid, but it might be enough to stop them from sliding about it someone bumps the table.

A friend of mine has one. His ships stick to it fine. For the rest of us, it's an ice-skating ring.

He should bring extra magnetized bases for his buddied to play with.

Let me know if it works Artifix, would be interested to see if something like this is legit. Ive looked at sheet magents but they are definitely not cheap.
